Hempstead New YorkCenter for Rapid Recovery Review

The Center for Rapid Recovery was established in 1994 through the Zion Cathedral Church of God on Long Island, New York. The facility was founded by Renee D. Charles and was supported by the Bishop Frank White, the Senior Pastor of Zion Cathedral Church. CRR is a non-profit behavioral healthcare organization that treats individuals with chemical dependency issues, developmental disabilities, HIV/AIDS and mental health issues. All substance abuse treatment is facilitated on an outpatient level, but residential care is available for clients with developmental disabilities who are in critical stages of HIV/AIDS. All treatment methods at this Hempstead, New York facility are faith-based and focus on the Christian belief system to repair the spiritual elements of addiction.

Treatment and Staff

CRR first and foremost offers recovery services for disadvantaged populations in Long Island communities, including minority groups and low-income families who are assisted through scholarships and sliding scale fees. Clients must be above the age of 14 and must have been diagnosed with moderate to severe chemical dependency.

All clients requiring substance abuse treatment must schedule an appointment for an assessment with an intake counselor at which time they are admitted and develop an individualized treatment plan with their counselor. All clients must remain abstinent for the duration of their treatment.

Treatment at CRR is highly individualized and depends upon the client’s evaluation. A client may attend treatment twice to three times per week depending on their recovery goals and mental health needs. Clients who suffer with co-occurring disorders will receive dual diagnosis support and may be prescribed medication. The clinical staff aim to provide clients with treatment that is culturally accessible and respectful of beliefs, practices and the linguistic competencies of the client. All treatment has foundations in the Christian faith but incorporate evidence-based practices during therapeutic activities. Counselors utilize CBT and DBT techniques during therapy and work to motivate clients towards their recovery.

Clients attend daily group therapy which focuses on relapse prevention techniques, mindfulness and psychoeducation. Groups typically last two hours each and are often co-ed, though specific groups are available for women so that they may feel comfortable processing gender-sensitive issues. Individual therapy and family therapy are available at the discretion of the counselor and the client’s treatment goals.

All counselors are CASACs or are in the process of obtaining their certification. If a client is seeking additional support systems, counselors may direct them towards 12-step programs or Celebrate Recovery groups in the surrounding areas.

Extras

The Center for Rapid Recovery offers a wealth of additional services for families and individuals enrolled in treatment. Transportation and housing referrals are available, as well as specialized assistance for individuals with HIV/AIDS diagnoses.

CRR also offers programs for individuals who are completing their certifications towards working in the mental health and substance abuse field.

In Summary

The Center for Rapid Recovery provides outpatient programming for substance abuse that is totally individualized and tailored to the client. Clients may come in the morning, afternoon or evening hours to accommodate their schedules and life responsibilities. All programs are faith-based and emphasize the Christian way of life as a foundation for recovery.  With over two decades of service and mindful program development, clients can begin their recovery journey with an experienced staff that are sensitive to cultural differences and beliefs.
