Located in the small town of Santa Rosa, California just an hour north of the Bay Area, Center Point DAAC offers a wide range of substance abuse recovery options at over 15 locations, including residential treatment, outpatient services and adolescent programs.

Accommodations and Food

Center Point DAAC’s residential program called Turning Point offers co-ed dual diagnosis inpatient care at its facility, a large clinical facility which formerly housed the Santa Rosa Convalescent Hospital. Turning Point holds up to 112 clients at a time, with 88 beds for men and 24 for women. The rooms are set up dormitory style with bunk beds and typically house three to four clients at a time. The women and men’s hallways are kept separate, with communal bathrooms in each hall. The facility does have a basketball and volleyball court for clients to use.

Residents have weekly chore duties which include kitchen shifts where they aid Turning Point’s on-staff cook with prep work, cooking and clean-up of meals. Clients can expect three hot meals a day, served in the facility’s dining hall. Women and men eat at separate times.

Treatment and Staff

When necessary, clients at Center Point DAAC can begin treatment with a three to five day medical detox at a separate facility in Santa Rosa, which includes 24-hour nursing care and supervision. From here, clients can transition to the Turning Point residential program.

Though the program typically lasts as long as six months, it can be extended depending on need. Days at Turning Point are busy with a focus on recovery and daily chore work. Clients participate in group and individual therapy sessions throughout the week which are led by LADCs. These sessions are CBT-oriented. While there is no 12-step component to the sessions, interested clients can receive transportation to local 12-step meetings upon request. Groups address mental health issues and thus, Turning Point deems itself a dual diagnosis program, but there is no medical doctor or psychiatrist on staff. Still, residents are aided in scheduling appointments with outside providers when needed. Medication management is provided, however, supervised by on-staff medication technicians. Turning Point also offers a special track for opiate addicts which includes a Suboxone program.

Typically after a client completes residential treatment they begin in one of Center Point DAAC’s outpatient programs at the Santa Rosa headquarters, which typically last six months. These consist of at least two 90-minute group sessions a week, with the option for individual therapy when needed as well as a group dedicated to mental health issues. As with the Turning Point program, these group sessions rely on evidence-based treatment and stress relapse prevention

Extras

Outpatient treatment is followed by a period of aftercare comprised of a scaled-back schedule of group therapy. There is also a specific outpatient program for adolescents held at the main Santa Rosa facility and nearby Ridgway High School.

In addition to their residential and outpatient programs, Center Point DAAC offers a host of other substance abuse related services such the Drug and DUI Court programs which are a series of classes designed to meet court-mandated requirements. There’s also a perinatal intensive day treatment program which offers outpatient services for pregnant and parenting women.

In Summary

With a host of services in the Santa Rosa area, Center Point DAAC definitely offers a wide range of recovery options. Their Turning Point residential program isn’t fancy, but offers solid treatment to a large client base. While dual diagnosis care is available, clients should not expect regular psychiatric visits. That said, the program is long term and steeped in core recovery concepts, emphasizing personal responsibility in one’s recovery. From there, clients can expect a solid outpatient program to continue their recovery experience.
