Just outside Trenton, in Ewing, New Jersey, Center for Healing (C4H) is an outpatient substance abuse treatment facility. It offers varying levels of intensity in their programming, which includes a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), a standard outpatient treatment and specialty programs for co-occurring disorders. Treatment employs elements of CBT and the 12-step philosophy.
Treatment and Staff
The first assessment determines whether the client is suited to receive treatment at C4H or if going to a detox or residential program is warranted. Referrals can be provided if necessary. If not, the second step is an in-depth intake which matches the client to the right counselor for their individualized needs and level of care. Treatment can gradually be decreased as clients move through their program and achieve the goals set for themselves with their counselor.
The PHP is the most intensive level required 20 program hours a week, which is typically five days for four hours a day. The next step, the IOP, requires a minimum of nine hours per week and the standard outpatient is less than nine hours, eventually becoming only three per week. Regardless of the intensity level, clients experience a variety of group therapy sessions and once a week individual therapy. There is also a requirement to attend at least four AA or NA meetings, complete journaling or step work assignments, and be present for all scheduled sessions. Those with a dual diagnosis have a separate meeting every week that focuses on anger management and behaviors, and medication management is provided.
The treatment offers evidence based therapy methods, like Motivational Interviewing (MI) and emphasizes positive psychological approaches. CBT, DBT and EMDR, are commonly used as well and connecting clients to the support community is a way to hold the individuals accountable and promote growth and healing. The multidisciplinary staff, including C4H founder Erica Franco Mortimer, are addiction specialists with Master’s-level accreditations, including LPC, LADC and psychologists.
The Center for Healing offers additional services, including an outpatient monitoring system, a relapse prevention help line that is open 24 hours a day and aftercare planning. There is also a concierge service that provides clients with an option to have a counselor from the facility come to their homes and check up on them.
This facility came to be after the founder discovered there was a strong need for addiction services in her hometown that could truly offer individualized treatments specifically for substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. And according to the testimonials on the website from clients who have successfully recovered, it appears to be a great addition to the community.
