Center for Human Services Review
The Center for Human Services (CHS) in Shoreline, Washington is a nonprofit provider of substance abuse treatment that was founded in 1970. Its program uses traditional and holistic treatment methods in outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) for adolescents and adults suffering from addiction and co-occurring disorders.
Treatment and Staff
To obtain treatment through CHS, applicants must do a phone interview and an intake assessment with urinalysis. After that, an addiction counselor decides which program would best suit the client.
Those in outpatient attend group therapy for once a week for three hours while those in IOP go three times a week on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday for two hours and also have one weekly individual therapy session. The average length of time in either program is anywhere from six to nine months, though it’s common for clients to start in IOP and step down to outpatient. For those in need of inpatient or detox programs, CHS can make referrals to outside providers.
Treatment at CHS is individualized, using evidence-based practices including CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and EMDR. The facility can refer clients to off-site 12-step meetings, though the steps are not an official part of the programming. Treatment covers relapse prevention, parenting and gender-specific issues.
The programs are overseen by addiction counselors and therapists who specialize in treating dual diagnosis and include CADCs, MFTs, LCSWs, psychiatrists, psychologists and caseworkers.

The facility emphasizes family involvement in recovery and offers family plans that include family therapy, psychoeducation and individual sessions.
