glassboro new jerseyCenter for Family Services Review

Center for Family Services is a non-profit organization with over 90 years of experience serving southern New Jersey. By offering a full range of comprehensive services, both adults and adolescents can receive treatment for substance abuse issues. CFS provides assessments, basic outpatient care, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and family sessions. Treatment tends to focus on relapse prevention and evidence-based therapy.

Treatment and Staff

CFS’s outpatient programs provide support for co-occurring disorders through therapy and medication management. Detox and residential care are not available.

Adult IOP meets three times a week for three hour sessions. The program includes individual and group therapy. Individual sessions are an hour long each and meet once a week. Topics covered during groups include relapse prevention, life skills, the 12 steps and coping mechanisms. Treatment includes both CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Clients are also required to attend AA/NA meetings outside of the program, although the specific number varies from person to person. The length of IOP also varies by individual.

In addition to offering general IOP, CFS also provides a specific program for women with children. All clients must be residents of Camden or Gloucester County. The program includes individual and group therapy, parenting groups, a psycho-education group, individual case management, transportation, daycare for children up to 10 years old, outreach services and special seminars. Services are offered at Lynn’s House in Camden and at the Sanctuary at Center For Family Services located in Glassboro.

Once clients have completed IOP they can step down to general outpatient. Both programs follow a similar curriculum, though general outpatient meets with less frequency. Typically clients come for one group session per week and one individual session per month. The program includes an emphasis on both the 12 steps and relapse prevention techniques. Similar to IOP, the length of outpatient care varies depending on each person’s needs.

CFS also offers a 12-week outpatient program for adolescents in need of treatment. Clients participate in daily motivational group therapy as well as weekly individual and family sessions. They also have the chance to learn about the 12 steps and attend AA/NA meetings during their free time.

Families are also welcome to get involved through family therapy where clients and their loved ones can work on establishing healthy boundaries and communication. Through group discussions, families also have the chance to process their emotions in a safe space.

The staff at Center for Family Services consists of LADCs and a psychiatrist. Groups sizes vary from eight to 12 clients at a time.

Extras

CFS offers a myriad of additional services including an at-home parenting program, a weekly men’s group on violence, a neighborhood gathering place for Camden County families, child protective services for substance abuse, substance abuse services for the deaf and an opioid overdose program. The organization also has a community resource facility at the Living Proof Recovery Center where clients can volunteer and participate in a range of peer-driven services and recreational activities.

In Summary

CFS offers comprehensive outpatient care to adults and adolescents through a range of outpatient treatment programs. Treatment uses the 12 steps, evidence-based practices, family therapy and dual diagnosis support to help clients recover. Overall, Center for Family Services is ideal for those seeking affordable treatment in New Jersey.
