Before beginning treatment, all clients go through an initial intake and assessment to help staff members develop their individualized treatment plans. Because programs are focused primarily on treating eating disorders, on-site detox for substance abuse issues are not provided.
Though treatment plans may vary in terms of length and formatting, each always includes individual, group and family therapy with evidence-based practices including CBT, DBT, EMDR and Exposure Prevention Therapy (ERP). The core of the program covers nutritional counseling, meal preparation, cooking classes and trauma-informed care addressing a number of body positivity topics. Groups cover a wide range of topics including shame resilience, trigger identification and relapse prevention techniques. Though 12-step participation is not required, alumni can get referrals to nearby peer support meetings as necessary. As mentioned, clients with co-occurring disorders can also receive targeted support and medication management.
The staff at Center for Discovery Del Mar consists of psychiatrists, dietitians, LMFTs, a physician and additional Master’s-level counselors.

Holistic treatment is also implemented in the form of art therapy, Somatic Experiencing, yoga, gym time, Zumba classes and mindfulness training.
