Center for Addiction Recovery and Empowerment (CARE) Review
Center for Addiction Recovery and Empowerment (CARE) is an outpatient treatment facility that offers mental health and substance abuse services on Long Island in Ronkonkoma, New York. Treatment is available to adults ages 18 and over through group and individual therapy sessions, along with medication management to those in need of dual diagnosis support. Groups are provided in the morning, day and evening hours to accommodate the needs of each individual. Detox services are not provided.
Treatment and Staff
Prior to entering treatment at CARE, clients undergo an evaluation with a therapist. The evaluation helps determine an individualized treatment plan to best suit each client’s unique needs. A visiting psychiatrist is on-site Mondays and Wednesdays and provides medication management services.
The facility offers a variety of outpatient services throughout the day, though frequency of attendance varies from client to client. Many clients are required to attend at least two group therapy sessions a week and at most six. Group sessions are held for an hour at a time. Substance abuse groups are held Monday through Saturday at 9:45 am, Monday through Friday at 3 pm and Monday through Thursday at 7 pm. Substance abuse groups focus on relapse prevention and the disease concept of addiction. There are also co-occurring disorders groups that take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 11 am. Individual therapy sessions are provided as a supplement to group therapy. These sessions are scheduled as needed and typically last about an hour.
CARE counselors are either LADCs or LPCs who use evidence-based modalities like CBT and DBT.
Extras
CARE offers specialty groups to adults in treatment. For example, men seeking domestic violence support are offered a domestic violence and anger management group held every Tuesday for an hour. Clients can choose to attend the 9:45 am or 6 pm group. There is also a parenting class on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. This is an educational class where clients learn effective communication skills. For DWI clients, there is a class held on Mondays and Wednesdays for an hour at a time at 6 pm.

Depending on each individual’s situation, treatment can be either intensive or non-intensive.
