Center for Anxiety Review

Located in the Empire State Building in the heart of Manhattan, Center for Anxiety is an independent treatment facility with affiliates in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Rockland County and Boston, Massachusetts. Founded in 2011 by Harvard Psychology David Rosmarin, Center for Anxiety provides an individualized and integrated treatment approach that synchronizes evidence-based therapies with holistic methods. Geared towards adults, adolescents and children struggling with anxiety and other mental health disorders like eating disorders, the facility offers an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that produces a substantial symptom reduction in a short period of time.

Treatment and Staff

The IOP is an ideal treatment solution for individuals who cannot remove themselves from their daily lives long enough to enroll in a residential program, or those who have not received the desired results in classic weekly therapy sessions. Either way, IOP offers clients an accelerated therapy experience in a relatively short amount of time, and is designed to treat clients with complex symptoms of anxiety, OCD, depression or other personality disorders including eating disorders like anorexia, bulimia and compulsive eating. The low self-esteem and body image distortion inherent in clients struggling with eating disorders frequently coexist with mood disorders.

Upon intake, clients undergo an assessment to help the staff determine the most effective individualized treatment program. The assessment is comprehensive in that it includes familial, cultural, economic and spiritual factors. The assessment also functions as a touchstone for therapists to refer to throughout treatment. Length of stay varies depending on the specific needs of the client, though typically clients stay between five and 10 days. Treatment includes three hours of individual therapy a day, and specifically utilizes evidence-based methods like CBT, DBT, Exposure and Response Therapy, Habit Reversal Treatment and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy. In addition, family therapy sessions are a key aspect to the success of a long-term recovery.

The Center for Anxiety staff is comprised of clinicians, therapists and counselors. In order to provide a continuity of care, therapists work with the client’s referring psychiatrist, outside mental health professionals and dieticians.

Extras

The Center for Anxiety offers free educational programs to outside mental health practitioners and the overall community. The facility also offers training and supervision to schools and churches on how to apply evidence-based approaches.

In Summary

The Center for Anxiety specializes in the treatment of adults, adolescents and children with anxiety and other mental health disorders including eating disorders like anorexia, bulimia and compulsive eating. While the facility offers weekly therapy, intensive one-day treatment and family sessions, the IOP treatment is a powerful way for clients to see significant results in a fairly short period of time. For clients seeking a comprehensive, integrated treatment program that can be completed without leaving their regular life, the Center for Anxiety is a great option.
