Cedar Mountain Center Review

Cedar Mountain Center (CMC) is a rehab in Cody, Wyoming, and a division of West Park Hospital. The house sits close to the eastern gateway of Yellowstone National Park and offers residential treatment as well as detox and support for those with a dual diagnosis.

The guiding philosophy at CMC is called Planetree, which seeks to treat clients in a healing environment that addresses every aspect of a client’s health, including mind, body and spirit. Twelve-step groups, nature therapy, good nutrition and physical fitness all play a role in CMC’s treatment.

Accommodations and Food

Residents stay in a home-like setting with dormitory-style rooms, and each client gets a single bed and dresser. The house holds up to 18 residents, with men and women staying in separate parts of the house. There are two gender-specific bathrooms, a living room and a dining room area where residents can socialize, read and relax.

Food is prepared by the West Park Hospital’s Nutrition Services department, led by two registered dietitians, a diet technician and an executive chef. For residents with any health problems, one-on-one nutrition consultations can be possible by physician referral for concerns like diabetes and weight problems. All dietary restrictions must be cleared by a doctor, and the kitchen can only make accommodations based on medical necessity. The food is prepared with nourishing, high-quality ingredients arrayed in a well-balanced and eclectic menu.

Treatment and Staff

Detox is provided at West Park Hospital and can last up to six days, depending on a client’s needs. Residents are medically supervised and administered medication to help with withdrawal symptoms. After detox, they may be referred to residential treatment.

Clients receive a comprehensive assessment when they arrive to treatment to determine their specific treatment plan, which is individualized according to their needs. All residents receive individual as well as group therapy. Group sessions include addiction and mental health education, 12-step meetings and process groups. Treatment typically lasts 30 to 40 days.

Aside from the above, clients also have one-on-one therapy at least once a week. There is a two-to-one staff-to-client ratio allowing for plenty of personal attention, and staff members include physicians, psychiatrists, LCSWs, licensed drug and alcohol counselors, therapists and registered nurses.

Extras

Physical fitness is highly encouraged at CMC, and the facility has a state-of-the art gym. Clients also participate in nature therapy, with staff members driving them to local scenic parks.

Aftercare is provided for those who complete treatment, with group sessions that meet once per week. There’s also a family program offered, which is three days where family members can address the issues they encounter when dealing with addicted loved ones. The facility is appropriate for seniors as well, and with West Park Hospital facilities in close proximity, any medical emergencies or needs can easily be addressed by hospital staff.

In Summary

For those interested in a soothing and supportive residential program with both a medical and 12-step emphasis, Cedar Mountain Center would be an excellent choice. Combining spirituality, physical fitness and medical treatment, the facility offers a comprehensive recovery curriculum, a nurturing environment and a reasonable cost.
