Located in the suburbs of Austin, Texas, Cedar Creek Recovery provides co-ed rehab for substance abuse and co-occurring mental health disorders. Accommodations and Food
The Cedar Creek Recovery residential programs are located on the beautiful 50-acre Sparks Ranch. A maximum of 12 residents live on the property at any given time. The women occupy the main, five-bedroom 10,000 square foot estate, while the men live in another large two-bedroom house on the ranch. Everyone has at least one roommate, sleeps in a twin bed and shares a bathroom. The luxurious estate features a home theater that seats 19, a sauna, living spaces with high ceilings and working fireplaces. The property features a five-hole golf course, acres of pastures, serene outdoor spaces, a swimming pond with a private dock and sand volleyball pit.
The homes feature fully-equipped kitchens with an on-site professional chef. The clients also take turns preparing meals for the household and eat family-style, encouraging them to build life skills and bond. Lessons on nutrition and cooking are provided. The facility’s small number of residents also permits plenty of flexibility when it comes to food options.
Treatment and Staff
The treatment process begins with an assessment with one of the organization’s counselors to help assess the individual’s level of need. The on-site medical detox is supervised by a physician and a nurse. Once completed, clients can move to the residential phase, which lasts 30 to 90 days depending on the client. Daily schedules are heavily structured and loaded with CBT-based groups, individual therapy and activities. Both co-ed and gender-specific therapy is available. Alongside the typical process and psychoeducation groups are special topics particularly relevant to young people; such as relationships, coping skills and body image. Cedar Creek Recovery emphasizes the 12-step philosophy of recovery and clients must attend offsite to AA meetings in the evenings.
The team at Cedar Creek features an MD, psychologists and a number of Master’s-level therapists, as well as addiction counselors and case managers who are in recovery themselves.
Extras
Therapeutic activities include art therapy, yoga, Tai Chi and gym workouts. For an extra fee, clients can sign up for equine therapy.
Cedar Creek Recovery offers additional sober living for PHP and IOP clients. Case managers work with clients to ensure each has their own best-fitting step-down plan.
