everett washingtonCCS Recovery Center Review

With four locations in Washington state including Everett, Marysville, Burlington and Bellingham, CCS Recovery Center is the behavioral health services branch of the Catholic Community Services (CCS), an outreach arm of the Catholic Church of Western Washington. The facility offers an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) as well as standard outpatient substance abuse treatment at each of its four locations. Though the facility is affiliated with the Catholic Church, clients of all religious preferences are welcome.

Treatment and Staff

After an initial assessment, clients participating in CCSRC’s program are assigned to a counselor who helps to shape their treatment plans. Both self-referring or court-mandated clients are welcome and the length of each program varies depending on whether or not clients are meeting sentencing requirements. Those in IOP attend a mix of three group therapy sessions each week and at least one individual therapy session a month, though counselors can schedule these sessions more frequently as needed.

All sessions are led by LCDCs and meet on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in the afternoons from 1 to 3 pm, or in two-hour sessions in the evenings. Group sessions generally utilize CBT and are sometimes large, with capacity for 28 at a time. Still, typical attendance is usually no more than 18 clients with evening sessions maxing out at 12 clients. While 12-step recovery is encouraged for self-referring clients, there are no on-site meetings at CCS facilities. However, clients participating in the program to meet court requirements and who need to attend a certain number of meetings are assisted in finding community meetings to ensure these quotas are met.

Dual diagnosis services are available as part of CCSRC’s program as well, with group sessions scheduled to address co-occurring disorders. That said, there is no staff psychiatrist nor is medication management available. While Suboxone treatment is available and overseen by an on-staff medical doctor, there are no detox services provided.

Extras

There is an aftercare program provided at CCSRC in the form of special group sessions dedicated to relapse prevention for an hour each week, in addition to on-going individual sessions on an as-needed basis (typically once a month).

While there is no family program offered at the facility, CCSRC often refers clients in need of these services to the Bellingham branch of the Brigid Collins facility, which provides family support services including a parenting class, parent-child interaction therapy and a Family Resource Center which helps provide aid in matters of education, housing and basic needs such as food and clothing.

In Summary

With four distinct locations, CCS Recovery Center offers substance abuse care at both IOP and standard outpatient levels. Each program varies depending on whether clients are court-ordered or self-referred. Treatment includes evidence-based care with some support for co-occurring disorders and aftercare. While those in need of more intensive care may require a more structured program, CCS Recovery Center is a strong resource with a network of facilities, affordability and flexibility.
