Ann Arbor MichiganCatholic Social Services of Washtenaw County Review

The Catholic Social Services of Washtenaw County is a community service organization that provides care for individuals of all faiths. Located in Ann Arbor, CSSW is located in the sixth largest city in Michigan. Founded in 1959, CSSW of Washtenaw has offered community programs to assist individuals and families for over 50 years. In addition to outpatient substance abuse treatment, clients have access to adoption services, pregnancy counseling, homelessness prevention, food assistance and domestic abuse intervention programs.

Treatment and Staff

Substance abuse treatment at CSSW is based on an intervention model. Before enrolling in a program, individuals must come to the facility for an assessment. Appointments are available on a walk-in basis on Thursdays from 12:30 to 2:30 pm. Clients are oriented to program offerings and set goals for their individual recovery.

Clients are enrolled in one of two programs based on the outcome of their assessment. The Early Intervention Program is an eight-week track for low to moderate alcohol and drug users. Clients attend group therapy sessions with other clients using the intervention model once per week, developing their coping skills through counseling, psycho-education groups and relapse prevention.

The Re-Direction Program is a track developed for individuals with acute chemical dependency. Over 15 sessions, clients attend group and individual therapy sessions to identify triggers and develop coping skills. Counselors work more diligently to correct behavioral issues and resolve distorted thinking patterns and habits. Individuals with family issues and a history of incarceration are assisted through individualized treatment plans. CSSW works directly with the courts and Probation Department to ensure clients are fulfilling court-mandated requirements. Attendance of 12-step meetings is suggested but not required.

All treatment is facilitated by Master’s-level therapists with credentials that include LCSWs, CADACs, LPCs as well as medical doctors. CSSW offers dual diagnosis support for individuals with co-occurring disorders and physical health concerns.

Extras

While there are no family programs or detox services available, clients can take advantage of a wide range of services including assistance with pregnancy, family issues, marriage counseling and special services for seniors. Parenting support and workshops are facilitated regularly as well as referrals to community resources.

In Summary

Catholic Social Services of Washtenaw County offers substance abuse treatment tailored to each individual’s needs. Clients are assessed and then placed into one of two programs that vary in length and intensity. CSSW does not offer a faith-focused program, but rather follows an intervention approach to guide clients to a better understanding of addiction.
