seattle washingtonCatholic Community Series of Western Washington Review

Catholic Community Services of Western Washington (CCS) was first established in 1918 and since that time has served more than 100,000 clients. CCS is the largest private organization providing help to poor and underprivileged communities in Washington state, with a number of different locations in many counties. CCS offers a wide range of services, among them a comprehensive outpatient treatment program for those with substance abuse issues, including assessment services for both voluntary and court-ordered clients. Both standard outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are available, as is psycho-education for adult men and women using evidence based methods.

Treatment and Staff

The treatment at CCS consists of individualized programming beginning with an in-person assessment to determine an appropriate level of care. If it appears that residential or inpatient treatment would be more beneficial, the facility provides referrals to outside agencies. Those who do pursue treatment at CCS generally begin in IOP, with the option to step down to outpatient later. IOP is three days or evenings a week for two hours at a time in a group therapy setting. Clients also meet monthly with a therapist for individual counseling for about half an hour. Though there is no strict time limit on the program, treatment can continue for a few months or until clients feel their goals have been met. After that, clients can continue treatment with once a month group meetings through the standard outpatient track.

As mentioned all treatment is evidence based, consisting primarily of traditional therapy. Though AA/NA participation is not a central tenet of the program, the staff encourage clients to attend community 12-step meetings if they feel it would aid them in recovery. Psycho-educational groups, relapse prevention and coping skills are the focus of many therapy sessions, most of which are co-ed. There is a parenting group exclusively for women. All staff members overseeing the treatment programs are CADCs.

Extras

CCS also provides specialty services including housing programs, veterans and homeless therapy services, community outreach for youth and families and long-term care for seniors and those with disabilities.

In Summary

Overall, treatment at Catholic Community Services is based on Catholic social teachings, with an emphasis on compassion and providing a nurturing environment for all who attend the program. Using evidence based methods, this traditional IOP combines a wide range of group topics and flexibility for individuals needing treatment while maintaining life responsibilities.
