Catholic Charities of Southwest Kansas Review
Acting as a non-profit organization, Catholic Social Services provides care for individuals based on their needs—regardless of faith orientation. The Catholic Charities of Southwest Kansas in particular has offered programs and services from three offices under the CCSK organization for over 50 years in Great Bend, Dodge City and Garden City, Kansas. Substance abuse treatment is available for individuals on an outpatient basis.
Treatment and Staff
The outpatient substance abuse treatment program through CCSK is faith-based and developed to be flexible for individuals who still have work obligations and family responsibilities. It is recommended that clients enrolled in treatment live in a suitable supportive home environment or in a structured sober living home.
Prior to enrollment, potential clients arrange an appointment with an intake coordinator. Each individual is assessed by a counselor and then paired with a primary therapist to develop an individualized treatment plan. Clients requiring detox or Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) are referred to an outside program.
Each client follows an individualized treatment plan that consists of CBT, family therapy and general counseling services. During the treatment period, clients actively participate in group therapy with a CADC. During groups, clients work with counselors to develop their early recovery skills, relapse prevention techniques and cultivation of social support systems. Individual therapy is incorporated into the program to develop trust between the client and the counselor. Therapists base therapy on the nature of their addiction, family dynamics, bodily health, religious constitution and cultural backgrounds.
Treatment frequency and duration is based on the specific needs and progress of each client. During the program, clients must actively participate in 12-step programs in the surrounding communities. Spirituality and holistic treatment approaches are also used to assist clients with recovery and if a client is not comfortable with AA/NA programs, resources are provided for Celebrate Recovery and SMART Recovery programs. While there are no family programs or aftercare options, clients and their families are encouraged to seek assistance through Alanon, Alateen and ACA fellowships.
In Summary
The Catholic Charities of Southwest Kansas offer flexible outpatient treatment for individuals in the Great Bend, Dodge City and Garden City areas. Payment assistance is available for clients without health insurance or individuals with financial difficulties. The outpatient program is individualized to each client’s progress and needs, making treatment length and goals unique. While CCSK is flexible to accept people of all religious beliefs, the program places a great deal of importance on spirituality and the 12-step fellowship beliefs.
