Casteele, Williams and Associates Review
Holistic-minded facility Casteele, Williams and Associates (CWA) was founded in 1986 by an independent MFT. Serving the Washington state metropolis of Tacoma, CWA offers outpatient treatment for substance abuse as well as help with co-occurring disorders and domestic violence. Relevant educational programs, DUI classes, anger management and myriad professional mental health assessments are also available.
Treatment and Staff
The intake process at CWA begins with a short phone assessment followed by an in-person evaluation meeting. If the intake coordinator determines the prospective client is in need of detox or residential treatment, he or she is referred to an outside program. In this meeting the counselor develops the client’s treatment plan, which determines both the length of the program as well as the intensity of treatment. Most people stay in treatment anywhere from three to 12 months.
CWA’s curriculum consists of both group and individual therapy. CWA offers group meetings on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6pm to 7:30pm. The meetings have between four to 12 clients at a time and are led by a counselor. The meetings cover a variety of subjects including relapse prevention, coping skills, anger management and parenting skills. CWA also follows the disease model of addiction and uses CBT in its groups. Individual sessions are scheduled based on the needs of the client.
CWA places less focus on education and a great deal on helping each client set and achieve his or her own unique personal goals while in the program. The program aims for men and women to develop a strong sense of direction for the remaining course of their lives by the time they leave treatment.
CWA is a dual-diagnosis equipped facility and treats clients who have co-occurring disorders.
The therapy at CWA is facilitated by an MFT with a PhD and chemical dependency counselors.
Extras
CWA offers an aftercare program with three consecutive monthly group sessions. To participate in the aftercare program, clients must be regularly attending local AA or NA meetings. CWA does not incorporate AA meetings or the 12 steps into its official outpatient program but attendance at 12-step is required during aftercare to help ensure clients are serious about their independence and sobriety while in no longer officially in treatment. CWA sees AA meetings as a part of the step-down from outpatient.
Although the facility does not have an official family program, clients are able to schedule individual meetings with a counselor and their family members. CWA believes in a possible correlation between addiction and issues with family unity. Loved ones’ participation and willingness to examine their own role in the client’s journey is a crucial part of treatment here.
The facility also does DUI assessments and domestic violence assessments and referrals. CWA also hosts DUI and domestic violence victims impact panels.
