Casa Morphos Review
Located near Playa Del Coco in the Guanacaste Province of Costa Rica, Casa Morphos is an intimate, residential treatment program for clients struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. It provides comfortable, luxury-style accommodations in a small home near the beach, all with individualized care plans and flexible lengths of stay.
Accommodations and Food
All told, the Casa Morphos home has a total of six beds available in both private and shared rooms. Each bedroom comes with queen-sized beds (or full beds in shared rooms), nightstands, carpeted floors and tasteful decor. Many of the rooms also come with their own attached bathrooms as well. In addition to the rooms themselves, the facility also features common areas with cable TV, sofas and chairs, WiFi, office areas, a dining room and a fully-equipped kitchen. As an added bonus, the facility also has an outdoor patio area as well as a pool. Throughout their stay, residents are served three delicious meals a day by on-site chefs.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, all clients go through an initial assessment process to help the staff determine their needs. Those in need of medical detox can do so on-site before beginning therapy. Though each program is different, residents typically stay for 30, 60 or 90 days. In all the above, care plans include both individual and group therapy with evidence-based treatment practices including CBT, DBT, Motivational Therapy and Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT).
In addition to the psychotherapy, however, the program also includes a wide range of holistic approaches including art therapy, music therapy, psychodrama, acupuncture, aromatherapy, reflexology, chiropractics, yoga and CrossFit training. Additional mindfulness and energy-based healing methods are also used including Reiki and Tai Chi/Qi Gong as well.
While it is not required, residents can participate in a 12-step program and/or SMART Recovery. Dual diagnosis support and medication management services are also available.
The staff at Casa Morphos consists of psychologists, doctors, holistic therapists and additional Master’s and PhD-level clinicians.
Extras
Because Casa Morphos largely emphasizes its holistic programming, clients can combine the above modalities in many different ways to suit their own recovery needs. Additional recreational activities are also available such as hiking, zip lining and beach trips. Other sessions to focus on life skills, money management and emotional processing are available as well. Those who complete a program can work with the staff to develop stepped down aftercare options as well.

Overall, Casa Morphos is a flexible residential program with major emphasis on holistic psychology. In addition to its medical detox and evidence-based psychotherapy services, the program also has residents work on diet, exercise and spiritual health to make a full and well-rounded recovery. While the cost of treatment is likely to vary by insurance and length of stay, Casa Morphos remains a strong resource for those in the area.
