Casa De Vida Review

Casa De Vida is a Reno, Nevada based transitional housing program. It’s specifically for young women who are pregnant and in need. The residents receive a number of social services including nutritious meals, education, and assistance with getting on their feet after their baby is born. As one would expect with a sober living home, the program is structured and requires residents to abide by a series of house rules. It’s also worth mentioning, Casa De Vida is a not-for-profit facility that operates mainly on donations.

Accommodations and Amenities

Casa De Vida is a single family home with five bedrooms. Aside from the house mother’s room, each of the bedrooms are double occupancy and furnished with twin beds, dressers, and closet space. The spacious and comfortable home provides a safe and cozy atmosphere for clients. There is a large living room with TV, dining room, kitchen and computer room. Clients enjoy Wifi throughout the house, and a laundry room on site.

The home features a large basement where house meetings, classes and crafting takes place, along with Wanda’s Baby Closet; a full shop of donated clothing and items for children up to the age of five.

Residents prepare all their meals. Those who are the appropriate age to have a job in order to buy their own food.

Rules and Regulations

Every one of the residents either has to be in school, working, or volunteering for a minimum of 24 hours per week. Because this program is open to high school age clients, during times when classes are not in session they must either work or volunteer.

There is job assistance available for those who are not able to obtain employment on their own. Mandatory classes take place in the house on a regular basis. These classes include cooking, parenting, financial literacy, prenatal care, bonding and attachment, and social skills training. Household chores need to be completed every day, and clients are responsible for keeping the house and their personal space clean and tidy.
