Casa de Paz Review
One of four sober livings in the Casa Sober Lifestyle network, Casa de Paz is home to both men and women. Located in Carlsbad on a beautiful stretch of California coast, Casa de Paz is just a half-an-hour drive from downtown San Diego. The city of Carlsbad has three lagoons and 1,000 acres of nature preserves and trails. Casa de Paz residents find themselves beginning recovery with an idyllic backdrop.
Accommodations and Amenities
With space for 10 residents, Casa de Paz has four shared bedrooms and one private bedroom. Shared bedrooms have cozy and comfortable full beds and the private room has a queen. Bathrooms are connected to each bedroom. In the backyard, there is a patio and Koi pond where clients can meditate and relax. For residents whose taste runs more toward Monday Night Football, the house has HDTV with DirecTV. Wi-Fi is available throughout the house and movie packages are included in the rent.
Apart from cleaning up their own space, residents aren’t expected to do a lot of chores here. There is an on-site laundry and maid cleaning services. Nature lovers rejoice: Casa de Paz is close to hiking trails and water recreation areas for exercise. But it’s San Diego after all, so beaches, movie theaters, shopping and restaurants are a short bike or bus ride away.
Rules and Regulations
Casa de Paz is attended morning and night by professional staff who help keep clients accountable to each other and to house rules. House meetings are also held during dinner time as a check-in measure. All house members attend 12-step meetings both on and off site.
If residents prefer another fellowship like Narcotics Anonymous or Cocaine Anonymous to AA, they may choose to work the steps in the program where they are most comfortable. SMART Recovery meetings are also available to clients who don’t choose the 12-step path.
Casa de Paz enforces a total abstinence policy from drugs and alcohol. Random drug testing and breathalyzer tests are conducted, as well as lab testing for mood- and mind-altering chemicals. Casa de Paz offers referrals to outpatient and aftercare programs for clients who need a more structured support network. For residents who would like to delve deeper with individual therapy, Casa is able to provide referrals to appropriate professionals. For residents still processing through the court system, Casa provides documentation and vouching for alternative sentencing programs.
Extras
Casa de Paz believes that holistic health leads to total sobriety. Residents are able to request a gym membership for lifting weights, cardio exercise and group fitness classes. For those who would like more therapeutic exercise, access to yoga classes is available.
