Nestled in the suburban coastal community of Costa Mesa, California, Casa Capri offers long-term residential treatment for substance abuse as well as a host of comprehensive outpatient programs. Casa Capri is designated for women only, though it also offers Windward Way, a corresponding facility for men.
Accommodations and Food
Located in a quiet, residential neighborhood, Casa Capri is laid out campus style, with eight apartments and the main facility, which hosts the majority of the treatment activities. There is room for 45 residents at a time and clients can expect modern, well-decorated bedrooms with no more than one roommate. Typically, there are three rooms per residence, with clients sharing a bathroom and kitchen facilities in each.
In order to promote a spirit of independence and personal responsibility, clients prepare their own meals in these kitchens and are taken on weekly shopping trips to purchase groceries—though on special occasions, such as alumni nights, the facility provides catered dinners. While length of treatment varies, typical duration is on a 30, 60 or 90-day schedule. However, no matter how long their stay, clients are provided with a wide variety of recreational activities, including daily gym visits, hikes and weekend trips to scenic mountain and desert locales.
Treatment and Staff
Casa Capri does offer a medical detox for clients in need, which is overseen by a nurse practitioner and typically lasts three to five days. During this time, clients are housed in a separate apartment reserved for this phase of care. Once completed, clients begin the residential program that consists of daily group and individual therapy, which utilizes CBT, DBT, EMDR and trauma-informed care, as well as an introduction to the 12 Steps.
Additionally, there is a standalone Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that features a similar curriculum as inpatient, with groups in the evenings to accommodate work schedules. While length of stay varies, typically half of those who complete the residential program transition to a nearby sober living facility and still attend daily group and individual sessions throughout the week.
Clients attending the Casa Capri program have a high degree of agency in tailoring their program to meet their individual needs and thus can incorporate specific therapeutic methods into their program, including adventure therapy, which includes beach and mountain excursions as well as equine therapy.
Women considering Casa Capri should expect a modern rehab experience in a comfortable, well-curated setting. The facility promotes a wide variety of therapeutic models and offers a plethora of excursions and health-oriented activities, while encouraging individuals to take a dynamic part in their own recovery.
