Casa Blanca Sober Lifestyle is located in the North County of San Diego. The house—or, more appropriately, the mansion—sits atop a hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean. This coed sober living provides a safe, structured environment where clients in recovery from drug and alcohol abuse focus on long-term sobriety by working a program, whether 12-step or SMART Recovery.
Accommodations and Amenities
Residents at Casa Blanca have the option to sign 30-day, 60-day, 90-day or year-long residential contracts. Both shared and private rooms are available. There is a price difference, however—$1,200 buys 30 days in a shared room and $2,000 buys 30 days in a private room. There are eight bedrooms and five bathrooms. A master suite has its own balcony and private bathroom at a cost of $5,000 for 30 days. All the rooms have TV, free Wi-Fi and shared balconies. Clients hold meetings on private patios that are also used for meditation, yoga, reading, journaling and doing step work.
Clients have a pool and a Jacuzzi at their disposal. The house manager and supervisors help organize barbecues for the clients, especially on special occasions like holidays or birthdays. Meals are prepared as a group, though clients are welcome to purchase their own food at a grocery store in town.
A full-time maid services the bedrooms and laundry machines are available on-site. Public transportation is easily accessible.
Rules and Regulations
The most important rule at Casa Blanca is that clients must be willing to work on recovery in earnest. To stay at the house, they must attend recovery-based meetings at least once a week. Clients may visit 12-step meetings together off site, though meetings are frequently hosted at the house. Clients also have the option to attend off-site SMART Recovery. Random drug- and alcohol-testing helps to reinforce the commitment to sobriety.
Curfew on weekdays is 10 pm and 12 am on the weekends. Clients are free to go to the movies, work out at a local gym, shop and go to the library nearby. There are staff and managers on the premises 24/7 to monitor the activities of clients.
There are no credit checks required to move into Casa Blanca, though clients must provide a $500 security deposit upon moving into the house.
In Summary
Casa Blanca provides a laid-back approach to healing through recovery as well as beautiful views. But gorgeous digs do not a recovery make, which is why Casa Blanca requires that residents attend meetings and work a program. Because many clients choose to stay long-term, there is a sense of continuity in the house and a real commitment to a new “lifestyle.”
