Carroll County Youth Service Bureau Review
Carroll County Youth Service Bureau (CCYSB) is a multi-disciplinary behavioral health practice located in Westminster, Maryland. It was established in 1972 by the Department of Juvenile Services and offers a variety of mental health and counseling services to children and families, as well as substance abuse treatment. Individualized outpatient treatment is available to people of all ages and there is also an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) specifically for adolescents suffering from chemical dependency.
Treatment and Staff
CCYSB uses a strengths-based approach to identify destructive behavior and work to towards solutions through education and clinical interventions. The IOP facilitates multi-family group therapy for youth and their loved ones. Issues that have arisen from childhood trauma, attention deficit disorder, difficulty in school and familial relations are some some of the topics regularly addressed. The length and number of sessions vary depending upon the time of year and academic obligations.
Clients suffering with dual diagnosis issues are welcome, as CCYSB offers therapy for co-occurring disorders alongside medication management. The medical director is a practicing psychiatrist. The rest of staff is comprised of LCSW-Cs, LCPCs, LPNs and nurse practitioners.
While it is not necessarily a 12-step oriented program, 12-step recovery is certainly not discouraged. There are on-site NA meetings on Tuesdays at 6:15pm.
CCYSB offers a substance abuse and chemical dependency group specifically designated for men and women who have received DUIs. It also specializes in helping couples undergoing marital issues or single parents who might be having difficulties as well.
Extras
CCYSB also provides substance screenings for Carroll County Public Schools and on-site assessments and counseling at The Gateway School.
Psychosocial assessments are offered on an ongoing basis. Additionally, co-parenting seminars, aimed at parents who are divorced or separated, are available but involve a two-day commitment, usually two Thursdays a month.

CCYSB is an excellent option for families and youth suffering with addiction or adults seeking comprehensive counseling.
