Caribbean Coast Recovery Center (CCRC) is a luxurious—yet affordable—rehab located in Puerto Plata on the scenic north coast of the Dominican Republic. The organization’s mission is to provide a serene and luxurious setting for comprehensive treatment of substance abuse. CCRC’s philosophy is to treat the whole person through focusing on physical and mental well being, building a strong support network and developing a sense of meaning and purpose.
Accommodations and Food
CCRC provides a resort-like experience for clients. The rooms are all private, spacious and feature king-size beds and private bathrooms. Some of the rooms at CCRC feature in-room Jacuzzis as well.
The well-manicured grounds of this gated, private facility feature palm trees, paths, a large swimming pool, a fully equipped gym and an outdoor juice bar. A “juice-tender” creates unique soft drinks of mangoes, pineapples, papaya and other locally grown fruits and vegetables. The food at CCRC is gourmet, prepared by a chef using locally sourced ingredients. The facility offers nutritional counseling as well.
Treatment and Staff
In keeping with the idea that there is no “one size fits all” treatment for substance abuse, CCRC creates an individualized treatment plan for each client, based on physical and psychological testing conducted by a multi-disciplinary team. Clients have individual therapy two to four times a week, depending on need, as well as taking part in frequent group therapy. Resident’s schedules of group and individual therapy are tailored to their specific needs and goals. The facility primarily offers treatment for drug abuse and alcohol abuse, but also treats nicotine addiction, food addiction and gambling addiction.
CCRC employs a wide variety treatment modalities, ranging from traditional psychological approaches like CBT, DBT, Psychodrama, and Rational Emotive therapy to more alternative approaches like movement therapy, art therapy and music therapy. The CCRC recovery model is not specifically 12-step oriented, although participation in a peer-support group is required. The program will provide information about SMART Recovery, LifeRing and other groups as well as AA and NA, depending on the interests and needs of clients.
CCRC provides dual diagnosis support and offers family and couples counseling as well. CCRC offers medically supervised detox, with both doctors and nurses on staff and 24-hour a day care. The length-of-stay at CCRC varies according to clients’ needs and progress in recovery. Some stay for only a week, while other “extended stay” clients stay for much longer—but the average length of stay is between four and six weeks.
Each client who completes the program at CCRC will leave with a 3-month recovery plan that details concrete, specific and measurable recovery activities. Every year following discharge, clients will be invited to return to CCRC so the staff can check up on them and fine-tune the recovery process.
Along with a medical staff of a doctor and several nurses, CCRC’s clinicians include a Licensed Psychiatrist, Certified Master’s-level addictions counselors, certified relapse prevention specialists, and NLP Life Coaches.
There are a ton of extras included in the price at CCRC. Therapeutic massage, journaling classes, yoga, spiritual counseling, nature appreciation and gratitude groups are all part of the CCRC experience.
Physical health is anther key component of the CCRC program, so clients are provided with a personal trainer, a gym and opportunities to participate in volleyball, tennis, basketball and swimming. The Dominican Republic is one of the top vacation destinations in the world, and CCRC clients take weekly recreational excursions to local golf courses, beaches and other tourist attractions.
It’s hard to imagine a more relaxing location to begin recovery than among the palm trees and tropical breezes of the Dominican Republic. For an addict with the means to enjoy a resort-like experience, CCRC is a great choice and the price is nice. While CCRC is far from the cheapest rehab on earth, it’s not particularly expensive, either. In fact—a 30 day stay is on par with a luxury vacation and includes airfare and transportation to the facility.
