Cape Fear Psychological Services Review
Cape Fear Psychological Services is the private practice and offices of Dr. Chris Savard, a clinical psychologist specializing in the CBT model of recovery. Located in the port city of Wilmington, North Carolina, the substance abuse treatment program is strictly outpatient with an emphasis on evidence based methods and treatment for dual-diagnosis.
Treatment and Staff
The substance abuse program at CFPS is highly individualized. Clients wishing to enter into treatment for chemical dependency must first go through an initial personality and psychological assessment and evaluation to determine the severity of their behavior and whether treatment for co-occurring disorders is also necessary. There is one 2-hour group therapy session held once a week but the majority of treatment is through individual psychotherapy sessions with Dr. Savard. One-on-one sessions are one hour in length and can be scheduled up to three times a week. Topics discussed include addiction education, relapse prevention, coping skills, goal setting, self-esteem building, anger management, PTSD treatment and treatment for co-occurring disorders if applicable. There is no set length to the program; it is entirely dependent upon each client’s progress. The 12 steps are not a part of the program, but clients are strongly encouraged to attend meetings.
Dr. Savard is the sole practitioner at CFPS and is a licensed psychologist.
Extras
In addition to the substance abuse treatment program, Dr. Savard also offers psychological and personality assessments, ADHD evaluations and specialized psychotherapy for depression, bipolar disorders, divorce, trauma/PTSD, personality disorders, anxiety disorders, abuse/neglect, autism, marital/family issues and OCD.
In Summary
Although CFPS is solely an outpatient facility with substance abuse treatment, its professional and experienced staff provides services that treat the whole individual, not just their addictive behavior. Through intense individual psychotherapy using CBT, clients receive treatment that is specific to their needs.
