Cape Assist Review
Cape Assist was originally just a campaign by five individuals of Cape May County to provide readily-available information on drug and alcohol abuse to their surrounding community and school system. In 2004, CA became a full-functioning non-profit agency providing outpatient substance abuse and addiction treatment services.
Located in Wildwood, New Jersey, CA is close to the Jersey Shore in an area of the state that came up during the “Doo-Wop” era of the 1950’s that is still popular with vacationers. Just a short drive from the state of Delaware and just 10 miles to the Cape May ferry, CA utilizes evidence based methods of treatment.
Treatment and Staff
The substance abuse treatment program at CA offers both basic outpatient and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Clients must initially undergo an evaluation and assessment to determine the severity of their situation and to devise an individualized treatment plan. Treatment may include individual or group therapy, with groups focused on family counseling, marital counseling, mental health counseling, help with co-occurring disorders, a substance abuse awareness class or relapse prevention counseling. Individual sessions typically last an hour while group sessions last three. Those seeking IOP services are encouraged to attend sessions a minimum of three times a week. Basic outpatient services are scheduled as-needed.
The 12 steps are not integrated into the program, however clients are encouraged to attend meetings. All therapies implemented use CBT methodology.
The staff at CA consists of consists of CADCs, LPCs and MFTs.

In addition to the IOP, CA also has a strong prevention program which provides educational seminars, advocacy programs, youth counseling and community campaigns for those seeking information on drug and alcohol abuse and addiction.
