Canyon Vista Recovery Center Review
Based out of Mesa, Arizona, Canyon Vista Recovery Center is a CARF-accredited organization that offers flexible residential treatment for clients in recovery from substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. The treatment model at Canyon Vista is somewhat different from other residential rehabs in that clients live in a small community in different small homes while coming together to participate in therapy and all other aspects of daily life.
Accommodations and Food
The organization has seven homes on their property with a total of 30 available beds. While the specific floor plans of each house vary somewhat, each typically includes two to three bedrooms—and each of those is shared between two to three residents. The rooms themselves each come with twin and full beds with comforters, nightstands, lamps, dressers and shared closet space. All of the houses feature Spanish-style architecture and each is set up like any normal home would be with common areas, living rooms and kitchenettes. Because the residential housing style is similar to a sober living situation combined with a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), all clients are expected to cook and prepare their own meals.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, all participants go through an initial intake and assessment process to help the staff members determine their needs. While medical detox and stabilization services are not available, those in need can get referrals as necessary. Once accepted into the program, clients begin attending an extended-length care program, which provides therapy but also them to live independently. Residents attend regular group and individual therapy with evidence-based practices including CBT and DBT. Therapy is also trauma-informed and includes mindfulness training as well.
Throughout the program, residents also work with nutritionists and dietitians to develop healthy meal plans. Twelve-step meetings are also worked into the program along with life skills classes on goal-setting, cooking, financial planning, social skills and stress management. Basic dual diagnosis support is available as well, though clients in need of more support may need to seek additional help elsewhere.
The staff at Canyon Vista Recovery Center consists of psychologists, LCSWs, LPCs, nutritionists and additional Master’s-level counselors and clinicians.
Extras
Other services include holistic approaches such as exercise classes, meditation, yoga, dance and music therapy. There is also a comprehensive family program that involves educational sessions on codependency, healthy boundaries and communication skills. As an added bonus, the facility also offers vibro-acoustic therapy sessions which are essentially sound-based meditation and calming techniques. All treatment plans have flexible lengths of stay. Those who complete primary care can also work with the staff to develop step-down aftercare plans as necessary.

Overall, Canyon Vista Recovery Center is a unique residential treatment program that offers longer lengths of stay and a more communal atmosphere than certain other facilities.
