Minneapolis MinnesotaThe Basics

Founded in 1969 as a community mental health center, Canvas Health has since grown to be one of the largest private non-profit providers of mental health and substance abuse recovery support in the state of Minnesota. With over 10 branches in and around Minneapolis and St. Paul, CH offers a rich network of resources and professionals for both adults and adolescents seeking outpatient mental health care and substance abuse treatment. With both individual and group therapy, CH employs traditional counseling services using evidence based treatment methods.

Treatment and Staff

CH offers a basic outpatient treatment for adults and adolescents. The adult program, New Choices for Recovery, starts with an initial assessment allowing counselors to develop an individualized treatment plan that best suits the needs of each client. All treatment integrates CBT-based group and individual therapy, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and the 12-steps. The individualized planning dictates the frequency of each type of treatment and whether or not treatment for co-occurring disorders should be included. The length of the program is determined by the progress of the client; there is no set limit. Topics discussed in group sessions include relapse prevention, coping skills, independent living skills and self-esteem building.

The adolescent substance abuse track is a long-term intensive program for at-risk youths—many who are homeless or having legal trouble. This program includes intensive case management, CBT-based group and individual therapy sessions, consultations and family sessions.

The staff at CH consists of consists of LCSWs, CADCs and LPCs.

Extras

In addition to their treatment services, CH also offers sober living environments for clients seeking to continue their recovery upon completion of treatment. There are both permanent and short-term housing services for chemically dependent homeless parents and their children. On-site case managers aim to help clients get treatment for chemical dependency as well as developing self-sufficiency. Legal help, transportation services, vocational counseling and parenting skills groups are also available for those who need or want it.

There is an additional adolescent counseling program tailored for the specific needs of young people who are transitioning from the local juvenile center back into their homes. Treatment uses a CBT model.

In Summary

Canvas Health offers basic outpatient programs for both adults and adolescents ensuring age-appropriate treatment models. While clients with a history of relapse or who are in search of intensive substance abuse treatment may require more acute care, CH’s strict adherence to evidence based treatment and individualized treatment planning provide clients with a structured plan tailored for the success of their long-term recovery.

Canvas health mental and chemical health care is not the right place to go for any type of treatment, the arrms service is the worst there is, they start out pretending to help, but for myself they got lazy and would come once a week and do nothing but watch TV, the psychological evaluation is a joke, I have been in severe pain not psychological pain in which they don’t know the difference, I have had a full shoulder replacement on the right side, I currently have a compressed nerve in my cervical spine and in need of full left shoulder replacement, I have been in constant pain for over a year now and no sleep through the entire night even one night, I have 4 suicides in my immediate family and 2 on my sibling side, because of my physical pain and family members blowing there heads off or hanging themselves plus more, because of mental and physical pain and getting a prescription for oxycodone to relieve the pain I started taking them as prescribed for the first 3 days with no relief so I started taking more each day until I got to the point where I was totally pain free and having bipolar, add, panic attacks, major depressive disorder and never once took more than prescribed, I am known for forgetting to take my meds but ,but because I took the oxycodone to the point of a mania state and feeling on top of the world for 3 days now remember that this is a one time overdosing and taking to someone I know that’s a psychologist at the mayo clinic and talking to a few other doctors also, Canvas Health in stillwater mn told me that I need to go into the addiction program instead of dbt in witch I only took more than prescribed once in 40 years, they could care less if I killed myself with all the suicides in my family, just as long as they get paid, they are not professionals at any level, if I end up dead I just want all the people to know that it’s there fault, they have put me in a major depressive state, if you want real help with any type of mental illness Please don’t let them do to you like they have done to myself.
