Canopy Cove Review

Canopy Cove is an eating disorder treatment facility located about 25 miles northeast of downtown Tallahassee, Florida. Established in 1990, Canopy Cove specializes in helping women struggling with Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorders and all related Eating Disorders. The inpatient care is exclusively available to adult and adolescent women, and outpatient programs are open to men, women and teens of both genders. The programs employ a non-denominational Christian faith-based approach and incorporate evidence-based therapeutic methods and holistic healing.

Accommodations and Food

Canopy Cove is located in a tranquil setting on 55 acres of rolling hills. Adults and teens are separated into two comfortable homes that are elegantly decorated and spacious. The program has space for just 16 women at a time, which allows for personal attention and a deep bond between the clients. Each house has four bedrooms. The shared rooms are very large and all beds are full or queen sized. There are four full bathrooms, with tile floors and marble countertops. Each client gets new linens, a dresser and plenty of closet space.

The shared living rooms and well-stocked kitchens are furnished with leather couches, big screen TVs with cable, state-of-the-art appliances and dining tables where clients eat every meal together. The kitchen comes with the bonus of a personal chef who prepares all the meals and snacks for the clients, working closely with each individual and a nutritionist to ensure the most healthy and delicious choices.

Treatment and Staff

Clients at Canopy Cove receive an initial evaluation that determines whether the program would be a good fit. The residential program can last anywhere from 35 to 90 days. The programs include multiple group and individual sessions per day, with 14 in the adult program and 12 for teens. Treatment incorporates both traditional styles of treatment, like CBT, DBT, Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) and EMDR. Daily treatment is supplemented by various kinds of movement and therapeutic field trips to practice real world coping skills.

On-site staff are available for support and guidance around the clock. The treatment team at Canopy Cove consists of Master’s-level therapists, psychiatrists, psychologists, nursing staff, nutritionists, Certified Eating Disorders Specialist (CEDS) and trauma specialists.

Extras

Holistic options, like yoga, massage, hypnotherapy and art therapy, are available. There is also a special emphasis on equine therapy, with on-site stables and daily opportunities to interact with the horses. A monthly three-day family program allows family members to attend meetings with clients to learn about addiction.

Adolescent clients are provided the opportunity to continue their education while at Canopy Cove. The Program Director communicates with the student’s school system to establish individualized goals for assignment and coursework completion while in the program. The staff provides daily study time and supervision of schoolwork.

In Summary

Canopy Cove offers luxury inpatient care for women in an intimate environment. Residents are provided with plenty of structure, but not lacking in comfort. With the beautiful location and comprehensive care this is an excellent option for women seeking a safe space to begin their recovery.
