CAN/AM Youth Services Inc. at Rose Hill Treatment Center Review
Founded by a group of local citizens in 1988, CAN/AM Youth Services Inc. at Rose Hill Treatment Center in Massena, NY offers residential alcohol and substance abuse treatment to at-risk youths between the ages of 12 and 21. It tends to draw clients from the surrounding Saint Lawrence, Franklin, Jefferson, Oswego, Oneida and Monroe counties as well as other parts of New York state, Manhattan and Canada.
Accommodations and Food
The small, modern 14-bed facility features single-occupancy rooms that contain a bed, window and desk. There is also a community lounge and cafeteria. Cell phones and electronic devices are not permitted.
Meals are prepared on-site and overseen by a staff dietician.
Treatment and Staff
Rose Hill’s 12-week (minimum) treatment program begins with a three-to-five-day orientation focusing on the individual needs, issues and life experiences of each resident. On-site detox, which may include Suboxone for opioid addiction, is offered, and dual diagnosis treatment is available. Rose Hill also has on-site schooling.
Rose Hill’s holistic approach emphasizes self-esteem, self-actualization and peer influence. The daily schedule typically includes group and individual therapy. AA and NA meetings are optional. Art therapy and other alternative treatments are also available, and residents may address HIV/AIDS, pregnancy and postpartum issues.
Parents and grandparents (but no other loved ones or friends) are allowed to visit. Residents are permitted to leave the facility once they have successfully completed two months of the program.
There’s a one-to-four staff-to-client ratio and staff includes licensed clinicians in medicine, social work, exercise and fitness, family counseling, food preparation and education.
Extras
Rose Hill has a basketball court and a fitness gym complete with stationery bicycles, free weights, weight lifting stations and treadmills.
Outdoor activities include chaperoned hiking in the nearby Adirondack Mountains and boat rides on the Saint Lawrence River, contingent on parental permission and program performance. Rose Hill also offers in-house movies on the weekends,
Other extras are language services including American Sign Language assistance for the hearing-impaired.
Discharge planning and aftercare as well as vocational service are available to clients post-treatment.

The treatment program at CAN/AM Youth Services Inc. at Rose Hill Treatment Center is specifically designed to facilitate successful rehab in adolescents suffering from drug and alcohol abuse. As such, CAN/AM is a good option for youths from northern New York and Canada.
