Located in Northern California, The Camp Recovery Center has provided substance abuse treatment for adults and adolescents since 1984. Nestled in the scenic Redwood forest of the Santa Cruz Mountains, The Camp rests on a picturesque 25-acres. The Camp provides a variety of residential, outpatient and aftercare programs for clients. With highly personalized programs, The Camp can treat all chemical addictions with its licensed and accredited medical and specialty staff.
Accommodations and Food
Meadow Lodge is home to adolescent clients, and though on the same campus, is located in its own building. All rooms are fully furnished with bed linens and necessary items like pillows and towels. Clients share rooms and bathrooms with one other person, and private rooms are not available.
Adult clients at The Camp are accommodated similarly to the adolescents. Gender-specific rooms and bathrooms are shared, and meals are provided and served in the dining area. The food is designed to meet nutritional needs and most dietary restrictions can be accommodated. Communal spaces include meeting rooms, lounges and several outdoor areas.
Treatment and Staff
Upon assessment, the level of need is determined and individualized treatment plans are created. This determines whether the client is better suited for residential or outpatient treatment, and whether they will need additional support. For those who require medically monitored detox, The Camp ensures clients receive 24/7 supervision by registered nurses and doctors. Adolescent and adult clients can safely stabilize physically, usually during a three to seven-day period. Also offering dual diagnosis support, on-site psychiatric staff will manage medication for co-occurring disorders like anxiety, depression and PTSD.
All programs are highly structured, with clients attending a variety of group and individual sessions, therapeutic and recreational activities each day. Programs typically last longer than 30 days, but that is the minimum required length of stay. Utilizing a holistic approach, The Camp incorporates 12-step meetings, CBT and psychoeducation. Clients may participate in art therapy, recreational therapy that includes a ROPES course, yoga and meditation. Daily exercise is an integral part of the recovery process, and clients are encouraged to utilize all the amenities provided.
A typical day begins at 7am, with curfew at 10pm. Throughout each day, time is assigned for personal reflection and assignments. Videos are shown and lectures are held, with the purpose of educating clients on chemical dependency. The group sessions are divided into small process groups, where clients express individual feelings and concerns, gender-specific groups, in which sensitive issues can be addressed, big group, during which the whole campus gathers to discuss a wide range of topics; and community group, which is a time for clients to communicate positive thoughts and ideas. For clients in the adolescent program, fully accredited school courses are offered throughout the day.
Upon completing the residential program, clients receive continuing care plans. These includes referral to an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), day or night programs. Relapse prevention is the focus of these programs, as well as the maintenance of a sober community through AA, Life Ring or other peer support groups. The staff includes doctors, nurses and psychiatrists. LADCs and technicians as well as Master’s-level therapists facilitate and oversee treatment.
Extras
The campus features tennis courts, ping-pong tables, a swimming pool, volleyball court, a basketball court, BBQ and several hiking trails, which are available for the clients during free time.
A three-day family program is offered and occurs Friday to Sunday monthly. The loved ones of clients attend group and family counseling sessions as well as education lectures, recreational activities and moderated discussion sessions with their family member.
