Came to Pass Review

Came to Pass of Flagstaff, Arizona is a residential treatment facility for men that is based on the 12-step philosophy. Treatment uses a step-down phase system that aims to get clients used to living a life in recovery while also building up their mental and physical strength. Clients receive traditional therapy within group and individual settings, in addition to learning life skills and receiving relapse prevention techniques.

Accommodations and Food

The modern living space has a bit of an industrial feel to it as the facility used to be a warehouse that was converted, though it is still very cozy and bright. The bedrooms are very large with en suite bathrooms for a total of six clients. The common areas include a living room with mounted TV with cable, and adjacent dining room and kitchen. The kitchen has brand new, stainless steel appliances and all the cookware is provided.

As nutrition and overall wellness are staples in this program, clients go grocery shopping after the week’s menu is planned, and meals are prepared by staff and clients as a group activity.

Treatment and Staff

Came to Pass is a long-term program. It encourages participants to stay at least six months in the program. Clients attend a 12-step meeting every day and schedule regular meet-ups with their sponsor, along with written assignments. There are weekly nutrition lectures held at the facility, and two group process sessions and one individual therapy session per week. There is one trauma group facilitated by Master’s-level a licensed clinical social worker.

The staff uses several different therapeutic approaches including CBT, DBT, Jungian Psychology, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Narrative. Some holistic and expressive methods are also applied, like music and art therapy.

The program is established in three phases, with the first focusing on building a strong foundation in recovery, the second is making amends and planning for the future, and the third is living a balanced life of sobriety. During each stage clients work on relapse prevention, establishing healthy boundaries, repairing relationships, working on goals, and getting back into the workforce or into school.

In addition to regular attendance of AA and NA meetings and counseling, there are medication management services and focused programs for those with co-occurring disorders.

The Came to Pass staff consists of Master’s-level therapists who are LPC, psychologists, psychiatric nurses, massage therapists and fitness trainers.

Extras

Fitness is an essential element of treatment at Came to Pass, and exercise is always  implemented into the daily schedule. They alternate between Crossfit every other day with yoga, hikes, backpacking, mountain biking and trail running. There are also outdoor (and sometimes long distance) excursions like surfing or canoeing.

In Summary

Came to Pass is a unique experience in that it combines the traditional aspects of a treatment program with fitness and nutrition. This results in a well balanced person who is also sober. Came to Pass is a great facility with well trained and caring staff.
