With two locations in Southern California, Westlake Village and Oxnard, California Lutheran University outpatient treatment programs offer comprehensive mental health services for adolescents, teens and adults in both English and Spanish. Clients are presented with an array of evidence-based treatment options, all of which are provided by highly trained clinical staff who are current students of the university.
Treatment and Staff
The first step to getting any sort of treatment services at California Lutheran University is to undergo an initial over the phone intake, which generally lasts about 30 minutes. This step is basically to ensure that the counseling staff is clear on the specific treatment needs in order to best serve each individual. If the incoming client is under the age of 18, the parent or guardian needs to be present during the call.
Treatment comprehensive and can cover several different afflictions and issues including eating disorders, anger management, grief and loss, parenting, depression and more. The facility offers group and individual therapy on on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, and in some cases one session is in a group setting and the other one on one. Counseling services are on an individualized basis and whatever would be the most suitable treatment options for each client are offered. On average treatment lasts about a year.
Evidence-based modalities, like DBT, are common practice within the clinical setting. For the most part clients focus on an achievable goal for treatment and work towards that. There are also life skills and coping skills classes offered once a week for a year that run about two hours each. Additionally, there are specialty tracks offered for members of the Oxnard and Ventura County fire department. These sessions typically address PTSD, anxiety, stress management, anger and aggression due to the job. Treatment is offered to family members and partners as well.
The staff of California Lutheran University are provided by Master’s and Doctoral-level students of the counseling program. The program is monitored by professional and established LMFTs, LCSWs and psychologists.

Treatment at California Lutheran University is provided by those who are working towards their PHD or MFT under the guidance of long time clinicians. In a sense, clients get the unique experience of having two therapists in one. The programs are incredibly affordable and confidential, and a majority of the staff members are bilingual.
