havre montanaBullhook Community Health Center Review

Located about 20 miles from the Canadian border in Havre, Montana, Bullhook Community Health Center provides outpatient services for substance abuse and mental health issues. Since 2005, this facility has offered self-referred as well as court-ordered offender programs. Evidence based therapies are used to help challenge each client’s negative behaviors and thought patterns.

Treatment and Staff

Bullhook Community Health Center offers outpatient substance via individual and group therapy with additional 12 step support. Referrals for detox and residential are available upon request.

Individual sessions usually last an hour, giving clients plenty of time to explore personal issues more deeply. Support for mental health issues such as depression and anxiety can be addressed during these sessions. Group therapy lasts for two hours per session and is offered Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Topics discussed include the 12 steps, relapse prevention, problem solving, coping skills and anger management. Evidence based modalities such as CBT and DBT are used frequently. The 12 steps are introduced in both programs, with clients encouraged to attend meetings and get a AA or NA sponsor. Still, this is not a required component of the program.

The treatment team at Bullhook consists of three LADCs. Group sizes are kept very small, ranging from two to three clients at a time to provide plenty of personal attention.

Extras

Individuals convicted of DUI and underage drinking are required by Montana Law to complete a treatment program. This involves an assessment, two six hour classes and two individual sessions. The minors in possession program includes two six hour classes. Any offenders with multiple charges have to a complete chemical dependency evaluation. Evaluations are done in three sessions. The organization also offers medical services, dental services, counseling for mental health, access to a pharmacy, case management, telemedicine and financial assistance.

In Summary

Overall, Bullhook Community Health Center offers basic substance abuse treatment rooted in evidence based therapies and the 12 steps. Thanks to a hands-on staff and small group sizes, clients receive plenty of individual attention. While those in need of a more intensive program may need to keep looking, many should find Bullhook a good fit for a variety of services.
