Bryan LGH Medical Center WestBryan LGH Medical Center West Review

Opened in 1985, Bryan LGH Medical Center West is a large, comprehensive facility located in Lincoln, Nebraska that provides alcoholism and substance abuse and addiction treatment to adults and youths. Though it also offers detox (lasting three to six days) and Intensive Outpatient (IOP), Bryan’s main focus is on residential treatment.

Accommodations and Food

In this 26-bed facility, residents share double-occupancy rooms and are matched by age and gender. Occasionally someone may be able to score a single, but it’s rare. The hospital setting makes for a clean environment but one in which clients can also expect a number of rules and regulations (opened food isn’t allowed in rooms and neither is inter-room visiting). Though cell phones aren’t permitted, calls can be made outside the rooms in designated areas and at certain times.

There are several lounges with TVs, and computers are available for limited use. The facility also has a gym and rec room with a variety of exercise equipment.

Meals are served in a cafeteria-style setting (food is delivered to clients in detox), and there are plenty of options, ranging from healthier choices (veggies and salads) to more tummy-warming “comfort” foods. Dietary restrictions can be accommodated.

Treatment and Staff

Though length of treatment may be as short as 14 days, Bryan tends to recommend 30-day inpatient stays. The facility provides individualized treatment and a number of modalities including  CBT, solution-focused therapy and group and individual sessions. Groups meet six days a week, and individual therapy can be scheduled once or twice a week. 12-step is also an integral part of treatment. Dual diagnosis support is available, though not a focus of this facility.

The daily schedule at Bryan is pretty robust and typically goes from 8:45 am to 10 pm with education groups, therapies and various kinds of recreation.

The staff-to-client ratio is an impressive one-to-four. Counselors are alcohol and drug abuse specialists with LADC credentials. A physician is on-site as are around-the-clock nursing staff and mental health counselors who work with residents undergoing dual diagnosis support.

Visitors are welcome at Bryan, especially for adolescent residents whose treatment tends to be more family-oriented than it is for adults.

After treatment, clients can opt to participate in the facility’s IOP which goes for several more weeks.

Extras

The facility’s aftercare program is run completely by alumni and consists of group sessions twice a week on Monday and Wednesday evenings.

In Summary

For those looking for treatment in a competent, structured hospital setting, Bryan may be a good option. With 30 years of experience, this facility inspires confidence and a feeling that residents’ needs— from detox through treatment and beyond— can be addressed. Though it’s not posh or luxurious, this is a comprehensive treatment option in a well-maintained environment.
