Interventionists in Indianapolis, INThe Basics

Based in Indianapolis, Indiana, interventionist Bruce Perkins is the founder and CEO of Perkins Intervention and Counseling. He is a Master’s-level counselor with a wide range of certifications including CIP, BRI-II, LCADC, NCAC II, CADAC II, LMFT and LSW. Perkins is equipped to deal with mental health and dual diagnosis clients as well as a variety of addictions. He provides intervention services for gambling, eating disorders, sex addiction and other related issues. Though most of Perkins’ interventions are conducted locally (including LaFayette and Muncie), he has traveled as far as Louisville, Kentucky; Cincinnati, Ohio; Eastern Illinois and Southern Michigan when necessary.

The Background

Perkins has been in business for over 20 years, during which he has facilitated over 2,000 interventions. Originally intent on being a therapist, Perkins changed his career direction after interning with several interventionists and witnessing peoples’ lives turned around so dramatically. He believes that addicts don’t have to “hit bottom” for recovery to be possible. In his practice, Perkins advocates for early intervention and aims to guide loved ones down a path where hitting bottom can hopefully be avoided.

The Approach

Perkins uses the Johnson Model, with emphasis on getting clients into a treatment program as quickly and efficiently as possible. Though his approach employs a “surprise” element, family members are well-prepped beforehand.  However, ideally, the pre-intervention with loved ones takes place right before the intervention. This typically happens anywhere from a couple of days out to the same day, and generally only takes a few hours. Perkins does offer counseling at his practice but for primary care, he typically refers out to a list of facilities for residential treatment.

Post Intervention and Summary

While the primary focus of Perkins’ practice is on getting his clients into treatment, he does work with family members and encourages them to attend Alanon meetings for additional support. He also offers aftercare services through his practice, though this depends greatly on where clients end up for treatment. Regardless, Perkins strongly encourages all his clients to seek follow-up care and ongoing support.

Overall, Bruce Perkins is a highly-trained and trusted interventionist who offers a great deal of professional experience to clients in his region. His no-nonsense approach makes him a solid choice for get a loved one into treatment at any stage of addiction.
