Bronx Addiction Treatment Center Review
For 23 years, the Bronx Addiction Treatment Center (BATC) has been providing state-funded inpatient alcohol and substance abuse services to residents of Bronx County. A New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS)-certified facility that’s easily reachable via public transportation, BATC serves adults and adolescents.
Accommodations and Food
The 38-bed facility features single-occupancy rooms in a studio apartment-like setting located on the second floor of the building. Each room has a desk, bed and closet and bathrooms are shared between two people. Cell phones and electronic devotes are not allowed.
Meals are partially prepared off-site and delivered to BATC, where they are cooked and receive final preparation. The menu is typically American—for example, macaroni and cheese and other pasta dishes—with peanut-butter-and-jelly and similar snacks also available. Dietary restrictions can be accommodated.
Treatment and Staff
BATC does not offer dual diagnosis treatment or detox but they do provide Suboxone for the treatment of opioid addiction. The focus here is on holistic treatment that addresses the client’s addiction as well as his or her overall health and physical, psychological and social factors.
The schedule for residents at BATC includes a Monday-Friday regimen of MET and CBT in both individual and group sessions with 12-step meetings in the evening. There’s a relaxed weekend routine that allows for loved ones to visit.
Extras
In addition to nutrition education and opportunities for spiritual expression, BATC offers a criminal justice workshop for those with a criminal record associated with their addiction.
Other extras include Tai Chi and acupuncture (including auricular detox, which is said to help minimize cravings through pressure-point stimulation needles in the ear), aerobics and field trips.
BATC also offers a range of programs for diverse populations: weekly education and an annual retreat for women and groups for Hispanic-speaking residents and LGBT clients.
In Summary
The Bronx Addiction Treatment Center is an affordable and capable facility. For those wanting a low cost program that offers good old-fashioned treatment along with a few bells and whistles, BATC is a solid choice.
