Broadway Treatment Center Review
In 2009, a group of substance abuse treatment professionals came together and formed the Broadway Treatment Center (BTC). From its facilities in Orange County, California, BTC offers a combination of 12-step, CBT, holistic and alternative modalities. Services offered include detox, residential treatment, an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), basic outpatient treatment, sober living, recovery coaching and intervention. Life skills classes and aftercare are also provided.
Accommodations and Food
BTC offers one inpatient house for each gender and one sober living house for each gender in Anaheim. The homes are all beautiful, upscale and located in quiet residential neighborhoods. BTC stands out for being pet friendly and clients are welcome to bring their smaller pets. Each house is an eight-bedroom home which accommodates up to 15 at a time. Clients share a room with one or two other people including animal companions. All meals are prepared by BTC staff and included in cost of stay.
Treatment and Staff
Detox at BTC takes place on-site at one of the residential homes and may last seven to ten days. Clients are supervised by a registered nurse, visited by a physician and medication-assisted treatment is offered. Clients may even opt for a Naltrexone implant or Nexalin, a device designed to regulate brain chemistry. After detox, clients enter the residential phase of treatment, which lasts 30 days. Treatment includes a daily combination of group and individual therapy, family therapy and anger management following the Matrix model. Dual diagnosis support is also provided on-site.
BTC’s IOP may last a few weeks to several months, depending on the individual. It is comprised of sessions three to five days a week, including both group and individual therapy. Basic outpatient treatment provides one session a week and there are day and evening sessions. This track also has no set duration. Both IOP and outpatient services clients must be enrolled in BTC sober living.
Sober living typically lasts an additional 30 to 60 days after residential treatment, but may be extended up to 12 months. It offers a basic 12-step approach with the option for either a Christian track and a jail diversion track. During sober living, clients live in one of the sober living houses and attend IOP groups in the BTC offices Mondays through Thursdays. They may also go to outside AA/NA meetings, to which they are transported and accompanied by staff. Cell phones are allowed at BTC but not during group or meetings. Clients may get outside passes after the first month of stay. Sunday is family day, during which relatives may pick clients up and take them out for the day or a few hours.
Many of the BTC employees are in recovery, while others have only been on the treatment side of addiction. Staff includes medical staff for detox, Phd level therapists, CADCs and CSWs. Groups are run by licensed therapists while a female clinical director and a male therapist conduct the individual sessions based on the client’s preference.
Extras
PTSD therapy is available along with alternative methods which include music and art therapy, sand tray therapy and IV vitamin therapy.
Aftercare at BTC is also known as an alumni program. Upon completion of the residential treatment program, clients may continue to participate in the BTC sober environment as long as they have regular 12-step attendance and are working with a sponsor.
Former and current clients are welcome to go on weekly field trips, surfing, fishing, boating, swimming, dancing, and even do yoga, weight lifting and have family barbecues with BTC acquired clean and sober friends.
