Brisas Recovery Center is an Intensive Outpatient (IOP) treatment facility located in Riverside, California. Treatment is for adults with substance abuse issues, or addiction to sex, gambling or food. The program includes up to 10 hours of individualized treatment per week, and features traditional approaches and cutting edge modalities. Every client has flexible programming options and continued aftercare.
Treatment and Staff
The admission process begins with a thorough medical check up and psychological assessment. Clients discuss their personal histories with their addiction or co-occurring disorder. The intake specialist makes a treatment recommendation at this point. Clients then go into a treatment track, which lasts between four and 12 weeks.
During a typical week, clients attend nine hours of group therapy and one individual session. There are daytime and evening program options, and clients can request to either attend three days a week for about three hours at a time, or five days a week for up to an hour and a half.
This program uses targeted therapy, taking each client’s personal history into account. Clients with existing co-occurring disorders receive medication management. Common treatment methods are CBT, Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET), DBT and EMDR.
Other approaches include neurofeedback, mindfulness training and nutritional classes. Clients work on relapse prevention during every phase of their treatment program. This entails learning new life skills, identifying triggers and gaining knowledge about resources within the community.
Brisas treatment does not use the 12-step philosophy. However, it actively encourages clients to seek out any sort of support system that will help them stay sober.
Along with treatment that addresses each client’s specific addiction, clients are also able to address their health and social issues, and receive assistance with any legal matters that pertain to their addiction or dual diagnosis.
Dr. Keerthy Sunder leads the Brisas staff. She is the medical director and an addiction expert. Dr. Sunder supervises a team of psychiatrists, psychologists and therapists.
Clients can participate in holistic therapies, like yoga, mindfulness, meditation and Tai Chi. There are also extensive alumni and aftercare services.
Brisas enables their clients to receive comprehensive care without disrupting their lives too much. It carefully crafts treatment plans to address each client’s very specific needs. Clients complete their treatment with a sense of calm and long term support thanks to the unique treatment program at Brisas.
