BrightView Review
With facilities in Cincinnati, Batavia, Colerain, Fairfield and Norwood, Ohio, BrightView is a broad, outpatient-based behavioral health organization that provides Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) and counseling to clients struggling with opioid addiction. All treatment plans are individualized and focus on treating clients from medical, social and psychological perspectives. Outpatient treatment plans come in three different intensities, namely standard, moderate and Intensive Outpatient (IOP).
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, all clients must go through an initial intake and assessment process to help the staff determine their needs and their medical history. While the organization doesn’t offer inpatient detox or stabilization services, the bulk of the program is essentially an ambulatory detox option. Still, those who need more intensive care can be referred to nearby providers.
Once accepted, participants begin attending MAT sessions and therapy in one of the three aforementioned care tracks. The least intensive consists of only one medical visit and one session each of group therapy, individual therapy and case management (for about five to six hours of care a month). On the moderate level, clients attend one medical visit, two group sessions, one individual session and one or more case management meetings (for about six to 10 hours of monthly care). Finally, IOP has participants attend group and individual therapy three and two times a month, respectively, along with one or more medical visits and case management sessions. All told, IOP meets for approximately 15 to 20 hours a month.
Clients attend medically-supervised MAT sessions where they are typically given either buprenorphine or naltrexone. Though the specifics of individual and group therapy may differ by clinic and clinician, treatment is based in evidence-based practices including CBT and DBT. Groups and case management sessions also cover a range of related issues such as life skills, job searching, attaining state benefits, stress management, trigger identification and relapse prevention. The curriculum also includes teachings from the 12-step recovery philosophy and clients are encouraged to attend outside meetings as well. Though basic dual diagnosis support and medication management are available, those in need of comprehensive psychiatric care may need to seek further help elsewhere. All outpatient programs last for a minimum of 12 weeks, though each can be extended as necessary.
The staff at BrightView is wide-ranging and includes doctors, nurses, case managers, LPCs, LMHCs, LCDCs, LCSWs, various medical technicians and additional Master’s-level clinicians.
Extras
To attend these programs, all participants must be 18 years or older. The organization’s MAT services are also not available unless clients agree to attend concurrent drug counseling sessions as well. In addition to its many clinics throughout Ohio, the organization also has its own medical lab where individuals can get a wide range of basic medical tests done such as blood work or urinalysis. Once clients complete one of the primary care plans above, their case managers work with them to develop step-down aftercare and discharge plans, all with the goal of tapering off their opioid substitutes.
In Summary
All told, BrightView provides comprehensive and flexible outpatient treatment to clients struggling with moderate to severe opioid addiction. While all care plans are designed specifically for those struggling with harder drugs like heroin and prescription pain pills, each is individualized and includes evidence-based counseling, life skills training and medical oversight to help clients make a full recovery. Though anyone in need of intensive psychiatric or inpatient-based care may need to be referred elsewhere, BrightView remains a strong option for clients in Ohio who are open to a MAT plan.
