Bright Heart Health Review

Bright Heart Health is an outpatient treatment facility that offers programming for opioids addiction, general substance abuse issues and eating disorders. It provides individualized, evidence-based treatment approaches. Located in the Contra Costa County town of San Ramon, California, Bright Heart Health is led by a multidisciplinary team of addiction and eating disorder experts. Treatment hours are accessible with both group and individual therapy and telehealth services available.

Treatment and Staff

At the beginning of treatment each client is assigned a team of clinicians. For both the substance abuse and eating disorder tracks there is an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) where clients attend treatment three times a week. The IOP is made up of three group sessions per week that run up to three hours, and at least one individual session. Typically during this program clients are at the facility between nine and 11 hours per week.

A number of therapeutic approaches are used within the individualized treatment programs. CBT, DBT, coping skills and relapse prevention are common. There are also nutritional counseling  services to assist with any anxiety or fear surrounding food, body image groups, stress management, grief and loss therapy, meal support, somatic therapy and EMDR. Additionally experiential treatment such as equine therapy and art therapy are integrated. Bright Heart Health also offers specialized group therapy options on the weekends. These groups are for binge and compulsive eaters, groups for anorexia, bulimia and for loved ones of clients who are experiencing these concerns. These groups are for clients ages 15 and up, and are either in person or through live interactive video conferencing. All of these groups require prior registration and are private.

Another unique aspect of the treatment offered at Bright Heart Health is the opioid program, which is the first online opioid treatment through telehealth. Clients meet weekly with their counselors online in order to maximize the convenience. Clients are generally prescribed Suboxone and are expected to meet with their doctors every two weeks.

The staff of Bright Heart Health is a combination of clinical and medical staff who collaborate on all treatment programs. This includes psychologists, LMFTs, physicians, dietitians, LPCs and LCSWs.

In Summary

The mission of Bright Heart Health is to provide men, women and adolescents with effective treatment programs that are comprehensive, supportive and flexible. With the many different treatment options, the telehealth services, variety of treatment approaches, experienced experts in the field, and flexible treatment hours, Bright Heart Health certainly delivers. This organization is an excellent resource for the community it serves.

  1. Horrible experience. If you want to go someplace where you will NEVER get your meds on time, you will NEVER have one on one sessions with a doctor unless you want it to be literally a couple minutes where they are trying to run you off the phone, you will NEVER be able to speak to someone competent regarding the front desk staff, and you will NEVER hear them apologize to you for their mistakes about forgetting to call in your prescription (even when they say they did and the pharmacy has no record of it). This is the worst “doctor’s” office I have had the displeasure to be apart of. I was “kicked out” of this program and I had no idea. I didn’t receive any discharge papers saying I was done or had moved on to a different place… Just all communication was cut with me. The therapist (Helena), who isn’t even a doctor-just a LMFT, is making most of the medical decisions about your well-being and is literally like a puppeteer with the actual doctor I worked with.
It would always be, “Oh Helena said, oh Helena doesn’t want, Oh Helena…” shouldn’t it be the doctor?! This place should be shut down.

  2. I would like to be the first here to say that this place is a blessing beyond belief. The opiate telemedicine program saved my life. All the people that work here are so kind, compassionate and caring. They are always helpful and comforting. They make recovering easy and stress-free. Their online assisted telemedicine is perfect for anyone that is in a rural area, doesn’t like to leave their home or that doesn’t have transportation. It took about 3 weeks for me to get my appt with the prescribing Dr and now I have online weekly counseling. Dr. Schmidt, Edward, and Danielle are all so wonderful. God bless the people that make this place so GREAT! Thank you!!
