The Bridge Behavioral Health Review
The Bridge Behavioral Health (formerly known as Cornhusker Place) is a substance abuse treatment organization based in Lincoln, Nebraska. For over 30 years, The Bridge has offered drug and alcohol dependency services including detox, outpatient and residential treatment. The Bridge utilizes a 12-step approach, offers CBT and dual-diagnosis support.
Accommodations and Food
The Bridge’s 24-bed inpatient facility s a large brick building. The top floors have been converted to dorm rooms that house two to five clients each, all of which are assigned a cubby and a closet for personal storage. There are two large bathrooms on each floor.
The Bridge provides breakfast—consisting mostly of cereal, toast, donuts, milk and juice. Hot lunches and dinners are provided by the nearby Lancaster County Jail, so there is not much wiggle room to accommodate special dietary needs. However, friends and family are allowed to bring clients snacks and food during their visits.
Treatment and Staff
For adults 19 years old and above, The Bridge’s 12-bed detox unit offers medically supervised withdrawal, with 24-hour care from registered nurses and LADCs. This phase typically lasts three to five days.
The residential program accepts only male clients who are over 19, providing lodging for one to 10 months. Treatment consists of group and individual therapy as well as structured daily activities. Groups run from 8:30 am to late at night, covering topics like personal issues that led to addiction, learning to cope with trauma and acquiring life skills. Several AA/NA meetings are held on-site and there is also one meeting a week that clients may attend outside the facility. Once they reach the point where they are allowed to go off campus, clients receive a pass and are accompanied by a counselor.
Outpatient treatment is offered to adult men and women and consists of one-on-one therapy or a group counseling—or a combination of the two. Clients remain living in their own homes and travel to the facility for counseling 10 hours a week. Two-hour groups meet five nights a week and individual sessions are scheduled as needed. Groups range from five to 12 clients and gender-specific groups are available. Topics include step study, addiction as a disease and relapse prevention.
The staff at the Bridge consists of certified alcohol and drug counselors (CADCs), registered nurses and rehab technicians. There is always at least one counselor on-site and available 24/7. Dual diagnosis support is offered by a psychiatrist who visits the facility once a week.
Extras
For men and women who are ready to begin treatment but are waiting for a space to open up, The Bridge allows ten clients to stay at the facility for up to seven days with access to counselors.
Groups are taken to the local YMCA recreation center for exercise and to movies and sporting events for entertainment. On summer weekends, clients often enjoy a cookout.
In Summary
The Bridge Behavioral Health organization has been offering a 12-step based program for over 30 years and its services are comprehensive and affordable. With limited options in the area, locals who are ready to make a change and tackle their addiction but want some versatility on their treatment, this no-frills facility could be a lifesaver.
