Bridge Back ProgramBridge Back Program Review

Bridge Back Program is the outpatient addiction treatment division at HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley Hospital in Kingston, New York. Founded in 2009, Bridge Back provides a variety of substance abuse services to adults and adolescents. Despite not being an inpatient facility, it offers a solid curriculum of day treatment to those struggling with chemical dependency.

Treatment and Staff

The intake process at Bridge Back begins with a meeting with one of the program’s counselors. If the counselor believes the client is in need of a higher level of treatment, he or she is referred to an outside detox or residential program as Bridge Back does not currently offer detox services.

The length and intensity of the outpatient program is based entirely on the counselor’s assessment of the needs of the client. Bridge Back offers a number of different options. Bridge Back’s Day Program is an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that meets Monday through Friday from 9am to 1pm. The facility also offers a number of less intensive tracks, including an early morning group that meets from 6am to 8am three days a week, a mid-morning group that meets from 9am to 11am three days a week and an early recovery program that meets from 4:30pm to 6pm on Tuesdays. Bridge Back also offers special issues groups that meet from 10am to 12pm three days a week.

All of these programs consist of group and individual therapy. In addition to CBT, Bridge Back also implements art therapy, gender-specific groups, relapse prevention techniques and health and nutritional education. The groups vary in length but are never larger than 15 clients. Individual counseling is arranged based on the needs of the client.

The adolescent program meets in the afternoon and evenings and focuses on harm-reduction. In addition to group and individual counseling, the adolescent program includes family therapy sessions with family members of the client.

Bridge Back also utilizes the principles of 12-step recovery in its groups and encourages clients to attend outside AA and NA meetings as well.

The program is equipped to treat dual-diagnosis clients and Bridge Back has a psychiatrist from the hospital who can prescribe medication to the clients with co-occurring disorders if necessary.

The counseling and groups are run by a mix of CASACs and LSWs.

Extras

Bridge Back facilitates an aftercare program for any who completes treatment. There are weekly groups consisting of clients who have graduated the outpatient program as well as the occasional individual session. When stepping down from the outpatient program, counselors also work with clients to ensure they have a plan for securing both a safe living environment and sustainable sobriety.

The facility does not have a family program, but will occasionally offer individual meetings with the clients, their family members and a counselor. These meetings focus on creating boundaries, understanding addiction and coping with emotional stress during the recovery process.

Bridge Back also has a secondary smaller office in nearby Saugerties, New York for clients in that area.

In Summary

The Bridge Back Program is a great option for clients in the Kingston and Saugerties vicinity seeking an outpatient treatment program that fits both their recovery needs and their professional/personal schedule. Also, the flexible length of the program allows clients to receive treatment for as long as they need to. 12-step support and a viable aftercare are also palpable benefits to seeking help through Bridge Back.
