Breath of Life Counseling Services Review
Founded in 2010, Breath of Life Counseling Services was formed as a response to the growing substance abuse problem infecting the city of Somerset. This New Jersey outpatient clinic treats substance abuse and co-occurring disorders using individual and family therapy, combined with the 12 steps.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment at Breath of Life Counseling Services is based on individual therapy, utilizing CBT, MET and Psychodynamic Theory. The only time group therapy is used is for anger management and DUI offenders. Clients with substance abuse issues and co-occurring disorders meet with their individual therapists at least once a week for an hour. If clients need medical assistance, Breath of Life refers them to double-board certified doctors who specialize in mental health and addiction.
On top of their individual sessions, clients are encouraged to attend 12-step meetings, get sponsors and start working the steps. While this clinic does not offer on-site meetings, it provides clients with local meeting schedules.
Breath of Life Counseling employs five clinicians. These men and women are LCSW/LCDC—two of whom speak Spanish. Additionally, there’s a CADC, a LCADC/LCSW/CCS and another LCSW who’s LCADC pending.
Extras
The family program at Breath of Life involves the client and the family meeting with separate therapists for a session, who then bring the two parties together for a group session.
In addition to the Somerset location, this clinic provides outpatient services in Highland Park and Teaneck.
In Summary
Breath of Life Counseling Services could be just the thing for someone who has already participated in a more structured residential program, needs something less intensive than inpatient or is looking for continued support as an aftercare plan. It could also be just the thing for someone who isn’t sure if they have a problem yet or not.
