Breakthrough Recovery Outreach Review

Atlanta, Georgia’s Breakthrough Recovery Outreach (BRO) is a CARF accredited program that offers several levels of treatment, including residential programs for adults and adolescents, outpatient tracks and a sober living. Treatment is for those who are struggling with addiction or a co-occuring disorder. Clients experience a structured environment centered around the 12 steps, holistic activities and education. The adult program includes 28 and 90 day tracks, with programming based on a step-down system for men and women who are 18 and older.

Accommodations and Food

The residential facility is one long building that accommodates the adults and adolescent clients, though they are separated by gender and age on opposite sides of the campus. The living quarters are cozy and home-like with sort of an apartment feel to them.  Clients have double occupancy bedrooms that are fully furnished with full beds and dressers, and the bedrooms have a TV included. There are small kitchens and dining rooms, and living rooms with couches, coffee tables and another TV.

The food is all provided by the facility, and clients go on weekly grocery runs with staff to pick up the items they would prefer.

Treatment and Staff

The 90 day track is ideally for men and women who are new to recovery and need a structured program and sober environment while acclimating, while the 28 day program is generally for those who have had time in recovery and relapse.

The 90 day program is broken down into steps known as the red, yellow and green phases. The first level, the red phase, is referred to as the step where clients are “settling in” to the program. They get acquainted with other clients, and become familiar with the rules and expectations. During this step they begin to honestly address their addiction and start developing a plan of action. This is also when clients begin to receive treatment or any co-occurring disorders that may have gone untreated previously.

The yellow phase clients are actively working the 12 steps, attending their groups and therapy sessions and beginning to explore options outside of the facility in terms of vocational training, educational opportunities and volunteering.

The green phase clients are incorporating their recovery skills into everyday life and implementing newfound sober ideals into every aspect of their experiences.

Treatment takes on a holistic approach and every client participates in a number of activities and therapeutic happenings on a daily basis. This includes a daily AA/NA meeting, some of which are gender-specific. Programming is a mix of psychotherapy groups, relapse prevention, DBT skills training, anger management, Big Book study, nutrition classes and health and fitness. Medication management services can be facilitated for clients who have a dual diagnosis.

The clinical staff at BRO consists of psychiatrists, medical doctors and nurses, LAPCs and LPCs.

Extras

There are several holistic treatment options for clients including Qi Gong, yoga, music and art therapy and massage therapy. An extended stay can be made available for clients who have completed the initial three phases but still would like some additional time in treatment.

In Summary

Breakthrough Recovery Center is a caring and comprehensive treatment program that is operated by long time professionals. The added bonus is holistic treatment that’s folded into every day of programming. It’s a great option for adults looking for a structured, safe place for beginning sobriety.
