Breakthrough Recovery Outreach Outpatient Review
Atlanta, Georgia’s Breakthrough Recovery Outreach (BRO) is a CARF accredited substance abuse and dual diagnosis treatment facility for adolescents and adults. Following the residential program there are separate outpatient tracks for both age groups—Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and standard outpatient. All outpatient programming consists of individual sessions, gender-specific group therapy and relapse prevention. The clinical team utilizes evidence-based approaches combined with the principles taught through 12-steps recovery.
Treatment and Staff
The outpatient tracks are an ideal step-down to residential tracks at Breakthrough Recovery Outreach, though it is not required for participation in this phase of treatment. Upon admission clients undergo a thorough assessment to determine where they are in their recovery, and depending on this evaluation clients are referred to different groups, medication management and primary therapist. There is a treatment team assigned to every client to ensure they get customized care.
It is typical for most of the clients in the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) to have already achieved a certain level of sobriety. It’s meant to be a form of additional support while the individual is either living at home or at the sober residences BRO provides. Both the adults and adolescent clients attend an evening IOP from 6 to 9 pm, three times a week.
BRO uses a variety of treatment approaches such as CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI), EMDR, art and music therapy, mindfulness and meditation. Sessions cover anger management, coping skills, identifying triggers, addressing past traumas, improving communication, setting healthy boundaries and establishing an aftercare plan.
The staff at BRO includes a number of Master’s-level therapists and medication professionals. They are physicians, RNs, LCSWs, case managers, LPCs and psychiatrists.
Extras
There is an aftercare program at BRO that offers a weekly group session. Some additional programming elements includes yoga, acupuncture, Qigong, reflexology, massage therapy and exercise.
In Summary
The outpatient programming offered at Breakthrough Recovery Outreach uses the same approaches as the residential tracks with the clients having the choice to stay at their own homes or live at the appointed sober living facilities. The treatment at every stage at this facility is very structured and teaches valuable life skills to support the successful transition of clients. BRO boasts a comprehensive curriculum spanning evidence-based practices and 12-step to holistic treatment, and also serves as a great place to set a foundation for sobriety.
