Breakthrough Recovery Outreach Adolescent Residential Review
Breakthrough Recovery Outreach (BRO) of Atlanta, Georgia was founded in 2005 to treats adults and adolescents struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. This CARF accredited program offers several services, including residential and outpatient treatment rooted in evidence-based therapeutic methods along with an introduction to the 12 steps. The adolescent residential program at BRO incorporates a number of age appropriate treatment protocols, risk reduction models, and holistic modalities in addition to having the clients continue their educations.
Accommodations and Food
The adolescents live at the same facility as the adults clients, but in entirely an different wing that fosters more of a community setting. The building has apartment style residences and the younger clients sleep in rooms that are set up like a dorm with supervision 24 hours a day. The living quarters have kitchens and living rooms, along with several common areas throughout the building.
Meals for the adolescent clients are prepared by staff and served three times a day. There are also snacks for the clients.
Treatment and Staff
One of the main focuses of the adolescent track is clients reconnecting or improving communication with their families, or dealing with peer pressure in addition to continuing their education. Their program consists of daily therapeutic groups, holistic activities and at least three hours of school that covers their personalized educational plan. During the day the clients are taken to the off-site campus for their treatment, then attend 12-step meetings in the evenings. Clients also attend church services on Sundays.
Residents go to regular individual sessions, and medication management can be facilitated. Group therapy is generally separated by gender, as are some of the recreational and therapeutic activities.
There are several different therapeutic approaches utilized such as CBT, DBT, EMDR, behavior modification, mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing (MI). In addition, BRO offers a number of expressive therapies like art and music therapy, and guided meditation.
The multidisciplinary team of clinicians at BRO in comprised of psychiatrist, medical doctors and nurses, case managers, LCSWs and LPCs.
Extras
Some additional recreational offerings includes yoga, Qigong, kickboxing, acupuncture, massage therapy and regular gym visits.
There is a family program for the adolescent clients’ loved ones to attend weekly counseling sessions at the facility, and a structured aftercare plan that can include the outpatient program offered at BRO.
