Braden Counseling Center Review
With three locations in northern Illinois, Braden Counseling Center offers substance abuse treatment services with both an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and a basic outpatient track. Braden Counseling is headquartered in Sycamore with services also available at the Elgin and Rochelle locations. While the vast majority of clients attend as the result of a court mandate, those who enroll voluntarily are also welcome. Treatment is evidence-based and incorporates a combination of both group and individual therapy.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment at BCC begins with an initial assessment with staff members who generally assign clients to an appropriate program based on court-ordered requirements. Clients in these circumstances are divided into three state determined risk categories: moderate, significant and high—and treatment for each of these designations varies in intensity. The typical treatment plan at BCC incorporates a combination of group and one-on-one therapy, with those enrolled in the basic outpatient track attending one to two sessions a week for three hours each.
IOP clients attend three weekly three-hour group sessions led by CADCs and LCSWs. Group leaders use CBT methods. There is no set length of treatment as duration is usually determined by the courts, but clients generally complete between 20 and 75 hours of treatment.
There is also a dual diagnosis support program at BCC, counselors do address mental health issues during group and individual sessions. While there is no staff psychiatrist, the facility does offer “tele-psychiatrist” sessions wherein clients can schedule video counseling sessions with a psychiatrist working remotely. There is medication management offered as well. There is no medical staff at BCC nor is there a medical detox, but clients can be referred to outside facilities when necessary.
Extras
In addition to outpatient services, BCC offers a host of other behavioral health programs. Among these is a court-approved domestic violence class which consists of 26 weekly group sessions that last 90 minutes each, a DUI treatment course and SMART Recovery. Braden Counseling Center also offers a family program that addresses not only substance abuse issues but also mental health, chronic illness and the particular issues of military families.
In Summary
With an IOP and basic outpatient services, the substance abuse recovery program at Braden Counseling Center is comprehensive. Those looking for evidence-based outpatient treatment with ties to the justice system and a host of mental and behavioral health programs should be be well served here.
