New York New York The Basics

Founded in 2005 by CEO and interventionist Brad Lamm, FreshlyDone, Inc., DBA Change, Inc., is a privately held company that provides intervention services for families and friends who want to help a loved one suffering from addiction. With offices in Manhattan and Los Angeles, Lamm is a certified intervention professional. He has appeared on numerous TV shows including Dr. Phil, The Today Show, The Dr. Oz Show and The Doctors. In addition to Lamm, Change, Inc. includes a registered addiction specialist, a certified intervention professional who offers sober companion services, a CADC and two Master’s-level social workers.

In addition to working with those suffering from chemical dependency, Change, Inc. provides services for clients suffering from eating disorders, nicotine addiction and co-occurring disorders. Sober companions are provided for newly clean and sober men and women. In 2013, Lamm opened the Breathe Life Healing Center in New York City. The facility provides services for clients suffering from trauma. Since then, it has expanded to other locations including Los Angeles and Detroit.

The Background

Lamm has personal experience with addiction and interventions. He believes that people don’t have to hit rock bottom before they can receive help. He struggled with substance addiction and an eating disorder for 20 years, until finally at the age of 35, his friends conducted an intervention. Six months later he went into residential treatment. Lamm is also the creator and producer of a TV documentary series Addicted to Food, a published author and a motivational speaker.

The Approach

At Change, Inc., Lamm and his colleagues use their proprietary intervention method, called the BreakFree Intervention. Services come complete with a certified interventionist and a comprehensive family service plan to ensure that the client and their loved ones get on a path to change their lives. The Break Free Intervention Method involves friends and families inviting the client to a family meeting, where the intervention occurs. While the event might surprise the client, the family and members of the iTeam (intervention team) have been prepared for the event.

This meeting enables the family to share their feelings with their loved on in a safe environment and staff to figure out the appropriate level of care. Typically, staff assists clients into entering detox and/or residential treatment, and family provides ongoing support. After the intervention takes place, clients are provided with ongoing case management services for up to six months.

Post-Intervention and Summary

After the client leaves treatment, staff helps the family find an appropriate outpatient facility and/or other aftercare programs. Family and client are also provided with 12-step recovery group referrals, including Al-Anon. Other services include a weekly family class and spiritual support. The length of the entire process, from intervention to aftercare facilitation is typically six to eight months. Change, Inc. has conducted numerous interventions since its inception. Former clients rave about the organization, saying that it has helped saved their lives. From his own personal experience, Lamm believes that the power of love can truly assist a loved one who is suffering from substance addiction, depression or other addictions.
