Boston Public Health Services Entre Familia Review
Boston Public Health Services Entre Familia, a residential substance abuse treatment and housing program through the Boston Public Health Commission. This gender specific, bilingual facility provides addiction programs for Latina woman who are either pregnant or postpartum and their children. Treatment includes comprehensive medical and behavioral health care utilizing evidence based therapy methods to address substance abuse and co-occurring disorders.
Accommodations and Food
Families in the Entre Familia program reside on a 52-acre campus that is comprised of recently renovated housing units, medical facilities and administrative buildings in the neighborhood of Mattapan. There are 18 furnished apartments devoted to the women’s program on campus that have either one or two sizeable bedrooms, complete with full kitchens, living rooms and over-sized windows. The program can accommodate up to 21 women and 40 children. The clients and their children have access to all of the services of the businesses in the adjacent buildings, including a childcare area that provides daily babysitting for free. All food is provided by the program, which the families prepare for themselves.
Treatment and Staff
During the initial assessment process that determines if the client is eligible for Entre Familia, services are also offered for those in need of dual diagnosis support, including medication management that is monitored by the facility staff. While in the six to 12 month program, there are psychoeducational classes that address addiction and group and individual therapy on a weekly basis. Required meeting attendance in the local 12-step community and frequent drug testing is integrated into treatment as a way of encouraging the clients maintain accountability.
Treatment approaches are culturally sensitive to the needs of Latino women in addition to utilizing traditional therapeutic modalities like CBT, DBT or trauma informed care and relapse relapse prevention techniques. The program is very family oriented and focused, and includes the children and partners in the treatment process, which can mean any therapeutic or medical treatments that are needed.
The staff of Entre Familia are for the most part also Latino, and includes licensed therapists, addiction counselors, caseworkers, LCSWs and 24-hour a day residential staff.
Extras
The program includes classes and support for work placement and skills building, and family strengthening activities. There are also weekly, instructor lead yoga classes on site that is offered free of charge.
There is a family program that is incorporated into the core program at this facility, which includes family members into group and individual therapy sessions. In addition to the therapeutic aspect of this treatment program, included are legal and transportation services if needed.

The Boston Public Health Services Entre Familia program takes all factors into account, including giving women the opportunity to go through treatment while getting to live with their children, which studies have shown increases the success rates of sobriety.
