Bon Secours Community Hospital Review
Bon Secours Community Hospital functions under the umbrella of the Catholic agency Bon Secours Charity Health System, a broad network of health services and programs serving the states of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Bon Secours Community Hospital provides a substance abuse treatment program through their behavioral health department that treats clients with neurological, psychological, medical and psychiatric care. With residential treatment, detox services and programs for co-occurring disorders as well as basic outpatient services, clients undergo evidence based treatment using traditional therapeutic methods and an introduction to the 12 steps.
Food and Accommodations
The accommodations for the substance abuse treatment clients are clinical. Clients stay in a reserved section of the hospital sharing a room with one other client. Rooms have some space for personal storage and bathrooms are shared on the floor. Meals are served in the hospital cafeteria three times a day and are typical American-fare.
Treatment and Staff
Substance abuse treatment at BCHS is provided by the behavioral health department and is called the New Directions Program. The 28-day inpatient program typically begins with a four-day detox. Treatment combines several modalities ensuring that clients have a well-rounded foundation for recovery.
A typical day includes group and individual therapy, educational sessions, therapeutic activity groups and a 12-step meeting. Therapies implemented follow the CBT methodology while educational sessions focus on clients understanding the nature of chemical dependency and relapse prevention.
Family involvement is also integrated into treatment in both individual and group sessions. Treatment for co-occurring disorders is also available.
The staff at BSCH consists of psychiatrists, LSWs and CASACs.

As The New Directions Program is just one track of the behavioral health department, the hospital provides all of the services of a top-notch health facility that is part of a state-wide network of hospitals. BSCH offers assisted living programs and in-home care. Additionally, clients receive relaxation training, medication monitoring and holistic therapies such as mindfulness and spirituality seminars.

Although a hospital-based substance abuse program is not for everyone, The New Directions Program offers a variety of treatment modalities as well as medically managed detox services. Clients benefit from the step down process beginning with detox, then clinical inpatient care followed by basic outpatient services using evidence based methods and an introduction to the 12 steps.
