Based out of Winter Park, Florida, Blue Horizon Eating Disorder Center is a behavioral health organization specializing in treating men and women with eating disorders. It offers programs to clients ages nine and up, all approached from a variety of therapeutic perspectives. Treatment plans are available in outpatient, Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) intensities.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, all clients go through an initial intake and assessment process to help staff members develop each participant’s care plans. While on-site detox services are not offered, those in need can get referrals to nearby facilities before beginning treatment. Once stabilized, clients can begin therapy. While standard outpatient is the most flexible option, IOP meets three days a week for three hours per session. PHP, on the other hand, meets four days a week for five hours a day.
Treatment consists of individual, group and family therapy with evidence-based treatment practices including CBT and DBT. Programming integrates trauma-informed care and dual diagnosis support including medication management whenever necessary. In addition to the more clinical approaches, each plan also includes holistic care including art therapy, yoga and meditation. Dietary counseling is provided as are supervised meal sessions and special trips out to local area restaurants as a form of exposure therapy. Groups cover a range of topics including healthy body image, emotional processing, meal planning and nutritional education. While 12-step participation is not required, referrals to local meetings can be given upon request.
The staff at Blue Horizon Eating Disorder Center consists of psychiatrists, RDs, Certified Eating Disorder Specialists (CEDS), LMHCs, LVNs, LMFTs and additional Master’s-level clinicians.
Flexible case management services are also available to help clients find community resources, government benefits and additional care resources. The organization also offers workshops and in-services to colleges, schools and universities about healthy diets and eating disorders. Finally, those who complete a primary care plan can work with staff members to step down the intensity of their programs as an aftercare option.
In all, Blue Horizon Eating Disorder Center provides an all-encompassing approach to eating disorder treatment with medical and psychiatric supervision. Programs are open to clients of all ages and genders with evidence-based care and dual diagnosis support services readily available. While the cost of each plan may vary depending on participants’ insurance coverage, Blue Horizon Eating Disorder Center remains a strong outpatient resource for those in the area.
